Finally a way to MERGE JW Library backups! (Combine notes from your phone & tablet

Recommended Posts

Hello friends,

Thank you to everyone who has been trying out JW Sync and sharing feedback. I've put together a small update (currently in Beta) to fix a few minor bugs and add a feature a few of you asked for regarding tags.

🏷️ Managing Tags

If your tags have gotten a bit mismatched between devices (for example, having "Favs" on your phone and "Favorites" on your tablet), this might help. When you upload your files, there is a new "Manage Your Tags" section with a simple dropdown menu. You can:

Combine tags: Just select an existing tag from the dropdown to merge them together.

Rename tags: Type a new name, and it will update the notes attached to that tag.

Remove tags: Just uncheck the box to skip bringing that tag over.

📁 Single-File Tag Cleanup

You don't need to merge two devices to use this feature. If you just want to clean up the tags on your tablet, you can upload your single backup file, tweak your tags in the menu, and click "Update & Save File."

🐛 A few minor bug fixes:

Highlight Colors: The tool should now correctly notice if you've changed the color of an existing highlight and update it to the newest version.

File Checker: It now shows a quick summary of your notes and highlights as soon as you upload your first file, rather than waiting for both.

Under the hood: I smoothed out a few database errors that were causing the tool to fail when tags conflicted.

You can test out the beta version here: https://jwsync.tiiny.site

I hope this is helpful for your personal study. Please let me know if you run into any issues with the new tag dropdowns or if anything isn't working quite right. Agape!

Just a note

If you are merging from one library to another and the other device doesn't have the same version of JW library installed, then the restore will fail. The file is fine and will still work. All you have to do is update the app to the latest. But since the JW library app updates so rarely, I'm sure this will only be an issue occasionally.

And most of us keep the JW library app updated so hopefully this won't cause too much drama

Hi, my name is Alessandro. I tried your program and I really like it. I find it very useful for studying on my phone when I'm going to work and on my tablet at home. Being able to merge my saves is great. I'm wondering if there's a version for Mac or PC coming soon? Thanks.

Alessandro that makes me so happy to hear. That's exactly why I wanted to make it that. Plus I use it two or three times a week as well. I'm so glad that it's actually helping someone.

As for your question

You can just use the web browser on your Mac or PC is fully built into your local web browser. Anything that can run the web browser should be able to run it. I even have a very limited web browser on a e-ink display device that still can run it as well. If you mean a dedicated offline program then there are other people here that I have learned that have made Linux Based systems. But as I wanted the versatility of being able to do this while in the car heading towards the Kingdom Hall with my phone and my tablet or whatever device that I studied on And also due to me not owning any kind of PC anymore and I think I'll be working on a operating system-based program.

I personally don't really see any benefit.

Ifyou are in a place where internet can be patchy sometimes or perhaps you don't have access to internet all the time.

You can just save the HTML page as a file and run it like you would a program. I'm basically any offering system.

As no information or files is ever sent to a server and it's all handled with the local memory of your browser. There's actually no need for internet once you have the HTML saved.

I hope you continue to enjoy using it and please send me any suggestions or bugs

Agape
