Advice on how to use this site:)

Recommended Posts

Apologies if I haven't got back to some of you dear brothers and sisters, I only seem to be able to answer messages I read sent on my email link.

I am finding the site a little more difficult to retrieve messages.

If I make a note of someone's personal name I find you.

But the messages are plenty and I am having a lovely time with the encouragement and all your stories and getting to know people.

But if anyone can tell me the basics, I would be grateful.

There is a sister I have had some lovely messages from in Canada and I read one this morning and thought I will answer that later, went to find it through my emails and it's disappeared:(

I don't know how to find it on my profile or activity.

I also want to respond to a brother who showed interest in how I came to know Jehovah and other questions.

Love to answer that too.

This site is like refreshing your faith , but help me use it ❤️

From your sister Julie

Click the bell icon to go to the notifications page. That's the best way to keep track of what you have notifications set for. Mine looks like this:

The bold ones have new comments and the unbold are already viewed by me. I have it set to automatically take me to the last viewed comment when I click on it. You can change your notification settings by clicking on the bell and then "notification settings".

The envelope icon is for when someone sends you a private message.

Your avatar (mine is the purple squid) will take you to your Activity page, which will show a list of your recent comments, interactions, follows etc. This can be useful if you want to go back to something you read but don't remember where it was.

If you click "Forums" (upper left, second picture) you will get a list of topics that other people have started. This will help you find new topics to enjoy.

If you click "My Activity Streams" (upper middle, second picture) then "Unread Content" it will show you only topics you haven't interacted with yet. I use this to find new topics.

Hi

Thanks for that, will read that advice a few times to let it sink in:)

Kind regards Julie

1- Also, hitting the "Quote" button on someone's comment quotes that person like so ^ and sends a notification to them that someone responded to them.

2- The "+" sign is used in a similar way. It also quotes someone, but first is saves the quote in the bottom right hand corner of the screen (see picture) and then when you click on it, it opens a comment section with the quote in it. This is useful for when you want to respond to someone but don't want to be taken to the bottom of the screen immediately because you don't want to lose your place while reading. It's also useful for quoting multiple comments without, again, having to do all that scrolling.

3- A third option for quoting is to highlight just the text you want to quote from someone and press the "Quote selection" button. This is useful for when you only want to draw attention to a specific portion of a comment or if the rest of the comment is very long and you don't want to take up that much space.
