64 Jehovah’s Witnesses remain imprisoned in Eritrea, 32 years after the government banned their religious activities in 1994. Many have been detained without formal charges or trials, largely because of their religious beliefs and conscientious objection to military service. Despite international appeals for their release, Eritrea continues to restrict religious freedom, making Jehovah’s Witnesses among the country's most severely persecuted religious minorities.

Jehovah’s day of vengence will be terrible upon the disbelievers

But we need to pray for those who persecute us so that they might come into the truth, as Jesus did. (Luke 23:34) The brother’s endurance in prison might be the start for them to get to know Jehovah.

We also remember the three dear brothers who spent their youth in a hot tin shed in Eritrea, and though released, they still need our prayers. Likely, they are deeply scarred by the savage experience, yet with Jehovah's help, they remained so faithful.

I often think of how these loyal ones, treated well for just a few hours in a courtroom, were sent back to those same subhuman conditions for years. I weep for them, and contemplating how they kept their faith reminds me to handle local challenges with equanimity. I often pray that they feel Jehovah's love and care supporting them every moment, every day, as they try to recover.
