Beasts of the Southern Wild

I found this film unsettling. It is a story of hopeful hopelessness but it is amid such squalor that it is overwhelming.

As you might have guessed, it is not a children's film. I don't believe that I will watch it again. I generally like Sundance indie films. The characters in this movie are too real. They remind me of folks I've called on in the ministry. Tucked away in the hills and valleys, farms and fields of northern Wisconsin are individuals and even families like the folks in Beasts of the Southern Wild. They hardly have a chance. I'm calling on a man like this now. He has a love of the truth, but finds it difficult to lift himself from poverty. I found him a job on a farm, but he is still in bondage to his past.

What kind words Dave. I pray for yours and his continued sucess in teaching/learning the Truth. I don't know how people deal with the devasting effects of extreme poverty on your physical and emotional physche. My husband and I lived in a Salvation Army shelter for only 30 days because of the economy and some of our own poor judgements. It is a constant fear for me to be without a home. Even knowing the Truth I find it difficult to fight off those feelings when I see others in such squalor. Especially comforting are the scriptures at Micah 4:4 and the promises in Isiah!
