Here is a poem written by a brother from Washington

"Life"

The sun was shining brightly, the day was warm and fair.

The sky was blue, the earth was calm, and spring was in the air.

The world was strangely quiet; no clatter could be heard.

Only peaceful sounds of nature, like the singing of a bird.

Awakened by the cooing of a dove up in a tree

From a sleep that so refreshingly invigorated me,

I was sure I slept, but briefly, cause I didn't even dream

But so strange it was to waken in the woods beside this stream.

There were flowers all around me, and birds up in the trees,

and the fragrant smell of roses drifting in the breeze.

I'll fill my lungs completely with breath of life so sweet.

And rising, it feels so good to me to stand upon my feet.

I get up and wander to see if I could find

Somebody who would talk to me, another human kind.

As leisurely I walked along a path that I had found

I remembered being here before, but things are changed around.

The trees are so much larger, and the stream crystal clear.

Where the city stood is forest now, and fox and bear and deer.

The mountain peaks and valleys, where the river runs its race,

Are all that's left to help me to identify this place.

As I walked along the river into which the stream had flown

I wondered what had happened to the world that I had known.

I can't say that I miss it, the world I had life in.

It was filled with hate and sorrow, wickedness, death, and sin.

Just then I heard laughtler of a child enjoying play,

So I went in that direction to see what the child would say.

As I came around the corner of the bend, there in the trail,

I saw a bear with a little girl a-tugging at his tail.

He didn't seem to mind at all her gentle teasing tug,

But responded with a playful cuff, and then a big bear hug.

I could see the bear was harmless, with her engaged in play,

So I asked her if she could help me, possibly, to find the way.

She asked me where I came from, and where I'd like to go?

I told her I was confused and really didn't know.

Explaining how I wakened, there upon the forest floor,

I told her that it seemed, somehow, I'd been this way before.

She said, "Oh, now I understand. You're just back from the grave.

You've slept in death for many years; to you now 'Life' God gave."

She asked my name, so she could help my friends and loved ones find,

And made me feel so welcome to be back among mankind.

I was amazed that friends I'd known had been expecting me,

And I was told the latest dead ones soon alive will be.

They say I can have this life of peace without an end

If only close to God I keep, and always be his friend.
