It has been a very hard, uphill struggle to manage the bar while Rick has been unable to do so.  Still won't be able for some months to come.  Many times I have cried and been so fearful of what needs to be done and IF I can get it done.  Have never done this type of work--cooking and nursing is all I know.  But it is sink or swim mode that has kept me going.  I started the Booze, Blues and BBQ 4 weeks ago yesterday and now Sundays have gone from the slowest day of the week to our busiest!  Harley Hamm--has been a lifesaver for us.  Is musical ability is astonishing to watch.  He also is involved with many other talented musicians he wants to bring out to our bar.  We had a woman named Selby Minner who cam a weekend Friday with some of her blues playing friends and set the place of fire--not literally but you know what I mean.  Her husband died 3 years ago but before he died they appeared on Oprah and talkied about their history of the Blues and their many travels over the world.  She is in her late 60's now and her voice is not as strong but her ability to play the slide guitar and many musical instruments has only improved.  She has a Blues Dinner Club in a small town in Oklahoma where her husband was raised by his great grandmother back in the days of prohibition.  She said that her husband was raised in the back of the club and that is where he learned to play and sing.  It is a black township that she lives in (she is caucasian) and she is a great story teller.  You would love to here her weave as story almost as much as play/sing.

Anyway, Harley (goes by the name Cowboy) said his friend Charlie Redd asked if he could get an invite here to play.  The vidoe clip/link I post shows Charlie Redd playing with his band The Full Flava Kings and it features a solo by Harley--watch it if you will and let me know what you think.

Problem?  We are a redneck, rural bar with a closed minded mentality.  I want to definity have him play here and feel honored he would ask.  I feel he only asked because he is a good friend of Cowboys'.  I worry because you never know who might open their big, dumb mouth and say something out of line.  It does have me a little worried.  I want him to feel welcomed and at home and extend the greatest of hospitality to him.  I feel that is why Cowboy has treated me so well.  He is a true artist and loves his craft where alot of local bands we have are so in to their selfs--no great talent but still good for locals--they are hard to deal with and always about the money.  Harley has treated me well.  He really likes Rick too.  He calls him Pops and tells the crowd he is his long lost Dad (they have long hair in common).  I can't figure out why he is treating us so well.  Not use to performers offering favors.  Harley just got back from a short tour with The Average White Band and played the lead guitar as a fill-in which he does from time to time for them.

Sometimes I am embrassed to admit that I have to feel ill at ease with some of our customers.  It is a process of constant weeding them out.  I only want a certain type of indiidual and I know it is important to pay the bills but I just can't have people I am not comfortable with being in here (bar).

I want to take this place into a new direction but it can only go that way with money and time.

Has anyone had experience along these lines?

Thanks for listening.
