  1. That is not the point. Even spiritually mature ones need to reassess their decisions through sometimes honest opinion. If someone dismissed some good advice, then it is an indication of being too proud, especially if the majority show through Bible principles reasons for yielding. If in your area someone was troubled by it, it might not just be a matter of personal taste and diversity in your area. Or if you feel you were being misjudged by that person, and these things are totally acceptable in your area, then instead of defending yourself to someone, ask why that person feels that way. Educate or help them to see why you find it acceptable, and why you, in good conscience, don’t find it a problem. Don’t let this cause a rift or start one between you and the person. But seeking advice or seeking confirmation about our decisions are two different things. If someone is seeking confirmation, you may or may not find it. The upcoming Watchtower for this weekend shows reasons why good advice is sometime warranted, even welcomed, especially when it has to do with matters of peace. In the end we need to stand behind our own decisions. https://www.jw.org/finder?srcid=jwlshare&wtlocale=E&prefer=lang&docid=2025480
  2. Sister Rachel, I love your hairstyle! If you are concerned about what others are saying about your nose ring, then ask a mature sister in your area about it. If she says it’s fine and acceptable where you live, great, but if she makes some suggestions, please stew on them and not defend yourself automatically. As you rightly quoted from the Bible, no one can say they are so strong and need to be careful from a fall. So this is where all of us are willing to do self-examination and be flexible as to our appearance. Having others opinions is not wrong in itself, and even beneficial. Prov.11:14 It is not about how beautiful or not a look or style appears, but rather how we represent ourselves as God‘s ministers in the context of what is culturally acceptable in our area. This is just what many brothers and sisters here are saying. No one is imposing his or her standards on you, nor making judgments, except to say, what is culturally acceptable in your local area as to modest dress and grooming should be followed. And if it goes against your or my personal wishes, are we willing to be flexible and adjust, or insist on our rights? Having the bigger picture in mind can help, meditating on bible principles (which includes understanding Jehovah‘s view, the happy God), can help you in good conscience make your decisions without the need to defend yourself.
  3. I am with the others here about praying. But like Jacob really wanting something from Jehovah, pray specifically for what you and your husband exactly need, distance, price so that you can continue in your assignments. Maybe as sister Carol above said, you may be able to purchase the property. Sometimes these things also come last minute, but you never know how Jehovah solves a problem.
  4. This text helps us to appreciate as sinners, it may be easy to be overcome by temptation unless we remember why we dedicated ourselves to Jehovah in the first place. The WT reference for the text sights a couple of examples, such as when one is tempted to flirt with another person‘s mate, or if one accepts employment that would interfere with his regular attendance at meetings. By remembering and focusing on our personal dedication with Jehovah, whenever different tests of faith come up as the day‘s text says: “you will not need to spend time debating what to do.“
  5. It‘s possible to get ears or nose rings as clip-ons, too. Actually fairly easy to get them online. I have a couple of clip-ons for my ears that I use on occasion, but generally not for meetings or assemblies. I don‘t see sisters wearing them around here, except maybe for cultural reasons, so I wouldn‘t want to start. After my daughter agreed to get her ears pierced this past summer (I always wanted her to make the decision for herself), we went to a professional studio, where the standard is now to put a needle through the ear. I was expecting an earring gun, as was used when I was 12. But this seems to be a better, cleaner technique. After watching her go through it, though, I decided I like the way my ears are at the moment. Not a fan of even temporary pain. 😅
  6. Loyal - Psalm 136:1 , Rewarder - Hebrews 11:6. Two nice WT study articles based on those 2 traits. So hard to pick one.
  7. The subject about celebrations is in the Enjoy Life Study book, lesson 44. AFAI, no recent updates to the book has been made. Lesson 44 addresses celebrations, such as christmas and birthdays. Although touching on birthdays, a key box is highlighted in the lesson, reasoning on the principles behind why we don‘t celebrate certain events. Is this the point about the GB update? The GB update was only about toasting. Should the subject of holidays come up later makes sense, otherwise arousing speculation and making wild guesses as to celebrating birthdays is not the point of the recent update. What is written about celebrations general is currently is the link below, and not to forget the FAQ page on our website. https://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1102021244
  8. Yes so true. Tonight I covered with a bible student lesson 14 in the ELF book about How Can Our Worship Be Pleasing to God. In para.4, the scripture to read was in Psalm 106:35, 36: “But they mingled with the nations and adopted their ways. They kept serving their idols, and these became a snare to them.“ We discussed idols, but also how the world exerts pressure to conform and promote disrespect for God and simply ignore what the Bible has to say. This scripture really sunk down with my bible student, particularly the last part. She actually took a pad of paper, wrote down the scripture and added her personal thoughts on it. Jehovah wants us to survive living in this world, but doesn‘t mean we have to be like the world. Then there is the subtle danger of turning something into something normal and acceptable from something that in reality is really offensive to Jehovah
  9. Just me, but it would seem strange if at a Witness couple wedding a toast was made to the bride and groom. Whereas if I was at a wedding from worldly relatives, and some decide to toast and see how I react, I would show my support in some way. Every situation is different. Some may reason it‘s the same, but in conscience matters different factors have to be taken into account. This week‘s WT study para.3, the footnote quoted the article on Making Decisions that Honor God, from the April 15, 2011 WT. One of the points listed on there was others can‘t make personal decisions for us. So where training and getting God‘s commands, thoughts and principles on matters are so important. Especially in the area of should I or shouldn‘t I?
  10. I am waiting to see the update with my family, but that is quite some news. 🥂 I remember a coworker in Canada giving me a hard time at my farewell lunch at a restaurant just before leaving for Germany. He tried to explain to me the origins of toasting - something to do with the Irish people. I can’t remember what he tried to reason, He was a bit of a troublemaker at work, though. My thoughts now, even though it isn’t the reason, it will certainly make us more incognito during the great tribulation, just like the beards and slacks for sisters. Every little thing helps! 😎
  11. Sometimes a person can get internal bleeding - hemmorhagic diathesis - from different sources that can spiral into various forms of internal injury. Wherher taking meds prolonged impacting the ability to blood clot, or vasculare disease, or a host of other reasons. The processes can impact organ function such as the heart, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, GI tract, nervous system, to name just a few. Once one or more of these organs are affected, it could lead to impaired function, impaired function to organ inflammation, and then to injury. A bleeding outside of the organ tissues can result in hemorrhagic diathese throughout the body. This could lead to all sorts of pain being triggered by the pain receptors in the body. Whatever the cause of such internal injuries and the resulting consequences on a pathological level, or mentally will be a thing of the past. Humans will no longer have access to the meds, chemicals or foods that disrupt our bodies and it’s proper and safe functions, including filtering, cleaning, energizing or nourishing and detox. We are wonderfully made.
  12. Jehovah uses those who can accomplish His will. So no matter what challenge, what problem, whatever fears we have, we can trust that He will take care of us and direct us in the best way. So trust and believe.

  14. @Jwanon June is just around the corner. Have you already booked your destination?
  15. Oh you can get this not so far from the big and small cities, in the outskirts. Especially in the interior of BC, or Vancouver Island. Trees so wide, tall and old, forests so deep, that you are in awe of Jehovah‘s creation. But it depends what one wants to experience in Canada…is it the culture, the people, the beautiful sights or top sightseeing spots, or national parks and nature. Alaska is a different country of its own, which is mostly nature and wildlife, and not exactly close by. Canada is a mix of everything. So depends on if you want to visit Canada, or visit the nature of Alaska.
  16. Forgot to mention, if you are in Ontario, a must see is Bethel in Georgetown, Ontario.
  17. If you want to get a complete view of Canada - so the rocky mountains of the west, the islands of the west, the prairies of mid-provinces, Toronto, Quebec life, the quietness and tranquility of the east coast and it‘s islands, you can take a tour on a simulated flight airplane…ah I just checked. They don‘t do cross Canada anymore. Shame. You would have enjoyed it very much. But they have similar shows. https://www.flyovercanada.com/ https://www.viator.com/Canada/d75. Some great sight seeing ideas. I was born and raised in Vancouver and lived in Toronto also for 7 years. I travelled by car from Vancouver-Toronto and back, so am familiar with the beauty of Canada. I have been to Montreal. But I have yet to visit the islands of the east coast. Would love to! If you want some amazing views and hiking trails, and chance to see wildlife, bears and other animals, I recommend the west coast. Vancouver is amazing for that. A mix of city, beaches, ocean, parks, Granville Island market, and mountains all in one. Also recommended are the Vancouver Islands and the various places there are worth the trip. Even traveling into the interior of British Columbia is a beautiful world of its own. Alberta (the next province over) is also full of wildlife, and lots love that bit of laid back way of life. The prairies in the middle are just that. Not much going on. Sorry you prairie people! Toronto, Ottawa and Quebec are filled with lots of life and its own culture. Niagara Falls is breathtaking, and there are some wineries in Ontario worth a visit. Toronto has an underground city to so-to-speak, stretching from one part of downtown to the other, also a couple of beaches, lakeshores, and the CN tower and visiting Center Island or other locations, like High Park are nice. Quebec is very unique in its own way, and since you speak French, would be nice to visit those friends and get to know their culture. The east coast is brilliant with lots of peaceful scenery apparently. So depending on what you want to do. Check out the different links and check your budget. Not always cheap to stay in Canada, but it is manageable if you search carefully. Also Vancouver is known for its amazing international restaurants, world class. But across Canada is getting that way, too.
  18. Last I checked in Canada 5‘7 3/4“ inches to be technical, or just 5‘8“.
  19. My sister quit studying because a couple of girls in the congregation were told not to play with her because their mother told her she was worldly. She to this day never lets me forget it. She felt completely judged and it left a bad taste in her mouth, even though this happened 30+ years ago. Of course the mother was right, but to have her kids use that term on my sister who was possibly 7 or 8 was very insulting even at that age sadly. Jesus made unbelievers feel not judged, but worthy.
  20. Also if someone wasn‘t liked, this added to the disunity and improper grounds to be judged. So here instead, the GB is giving us reasons to promote unity, and view persons in the right light. Unless promoting apostasy, commiting a sin or going down a questionable path, to do less unnecessary judging, more shepherding and imitating Jesus view of others.
  21. Some were held back because of choice of dress and grooming. Such as this thread about wearing beards. Only in exceptional cases were brothers given privileges. Uniformity in dress was required at one point, eg. wearing only of white shirts on the stage, whereas this may not apply in some countries. Some individuals today still disagree with certain types of buzz haircuts, although this may not be viewed in such a way in their local area. Some feel wearing cultural costumes is not appropriate when living in other countries. Sisters are judged being too casual if they wear dress pants with a blouse. Some examples that could cause upset and disunity.
