Content of Car Survival Kit

Recommended Posts

Dear all,

Since we expect the coldest winter in 100 years (according to Piers Corbyn) we want to be prepared. Al though this prediction is for the UK I expect the winter will also reach our small country: The Netherlands. However, I expect that you may have more experience with extreme winter weather.

So we need :help: I would like to know what you recommend as a survival kit for our Car. What items should we have with us in case of stranding?

Any suggestions are welcome.

Kind Regards

János Molnár

Smart thinking to get a survival kit ready beforehand (Pr 22:3). Being from FL, don't have much advice, except keeping a spare bible on hand, and some good sun protection :)

I remember seeing what happened to the people in Haiti after the earthquake and thinking about getting a survival kit ready for what's coming up. At that time, I came across this useful site the US government has put together on kits and plans after dealing with a number of disasters - http://www.ready.gov/

One interesting thing they mentioned was keeping some bleach. If memory serves correct, six drops of bleach in a gallon of water from some source, kills any organisms in it, making it safe to drink (provided it's not otherwise polluted. Found that link - http://www.ready.gov/america/getakit/index.html.

Well you really got me thinking with this one. Sometimes we take so much for granted, and think with the advent of cell phones, we'll be alright (provided it is not dead or damaged when the time comes).

I pulled the following off a website...

# Winter coat, hat, and gloves; ideally a blanket (or more than one) as well

# First-aid kit

# Some non-perishable food such as granola bars, or crackers; even just some hard candy can help

# Strike anywhere matches in a water-tight container

# Candles and an empty coffee can to melt snow; a cup is a good idea as well

# Flashlight with extra batteries

# Small tool kit or at least an all purpose tool

# Shovel

# Jumper cables

# Tire chains
