The Google doodle for Tues., Oct. 1 commemorates the 123rd anniversary of Yosemite National Park.

The Google doodle is celebrating the 123rd birthday of Yosemite National Park, but in a sad turn of events, the tribute comes the very day visitors to the California nature reserve will be turned away due to the government shutdown.

Though its website boasts that Yosemite is open 24 hours, 365 days a year, the Department of Interior alerted visitors that as of midnight Tuesday, all 401 parks run by the U.S. National Park Service would be closed given the Congressional showdown in Washington.

Don't go to the National Park site - it too is on hiatus   :lol1:

Because of the federal government shutdown, all national parks are closed and National Park Service webpages are not operating. For more information, go to www.doi.gov.

EDIT - And so is the Dept of Interior site - mentioned in the previous quote.

I think all national parks can use a rest don't you?  I mean, if I was a big sequoia tree, I'd be thrilled that no one tried to peel off my bark way down below. It would be like taking a piece of my underwear off.   So am glad the National Parks are closed for a while.  Give the trees and other plant life, including the soil, insects, animals a time of rest.

Yes, this wealthy country is falling apart. When it gets to the point of coming back together - Peace & Security... and BOOM! We know what happens next.

Just imagine these very parks being enjoyed everyday with none of the problems we have today. Nobody stealing the bark, littering, falling off cliffs, traffic, no more wildlife being removed or reintroduced, like the wolf. Ah, that day is soon approaching, my friends.
