A man was driving down a back road in rural Western Washington
State, when he suddenly has a flat tire. He was way out in the
boonies, and it didn't seem likely that he would get any help, so he
reluctantly got out to change the tire himself.

As he was finishing up, he saw an unusual sight. There, pecking and
scratching on the grass by the side of the road was a three-legged
chicken! The man was fascinated, but at the same time found it more
than a little creepy. He quickly finished changing the tire and drove
off.

As he pulled away, he noticed the three-legged chicken running
along the side of the car. "Great!" he thought. "This is getting
weirder by the moment."

So he accelerated rapidly for a quick getaway. The three-legged
chicken, kept up for quite a while. Thirty miles per hour, then forty,

fifty, sixty…the chicken kept pace for a long time, then finally fell
behind. The man continued to the next little town, asking himself if
it had really happened.

When he stopped at the town's lone service station to get the flat
fixed, he told the station attendant what had happened, and finally
asked him,  "Did you ever see a three-legged chicken around here?"

"Ayup" he said. "Clem, that's him standing by the store over there, he
breeds 'em himself Why don't you go on over and ask him?"

The man went over to where Clem was standing, introduced himself,
and asked if it was true that he raised three-legged chickens.

"Sure do," replied Clem.

"Why would you do that?" he inquired.

"Well, I like chicken leg, and Mama, she likes chicken leg, and
junior, he likes chicken leg too.  So I fig'ered I'd raise me some 3
legged chickens".

"That's fantastic! How do they taste?"

"Don't know", said the farmer, looking disconsolate. "Can't catch
'em". :(
