Tealights and Heat

Recommended Posts

How to heat your home for 12c a day using just TEALIGHTS and FLOWERPOTS

  • YouTube user Dylan Winter created the DIY heater for his boat and office
  • He used tealights that cost £1 for a pack of 100 plus two basic ceramic pots
  • The process uses the theory of convection heat transfer to warm a room
  • Tealights burn for around four hours in the morning and afternoon

(this was pretty neat, just to save on your heating bill for a small room. Just have to be careful who's do the lighting of the tiny candles though!)

Yes I put this on 'money saving tips' a few months back. OK in a small space where kids or pets aren't going to knock it over. I wouldn't put it on a magazine or anything flammable nor leave it unsupervised. It works by building up convection heat transferred from one pot to another then sent upwards out of the pot. There are different versions on a similar theme on Youtube. The worst is pots balanced on thin posts that looks very unsteady and some are lit on a carpet - not good, we lit ours on the hearth of our fire-place when our solid fuel ran out or on some spare bricks. Took the chill off, but works better in a small room.
