That's an interesting article, Lisa.

"Many modern scholars dismiss David and Solomon as mythological figures and believe no kingdom could have existed in the region at the time the Bible recounted their activities. The new finds provide evidence that some type of government activity was conducted there in that period."

I can't really work out which area east of Gaza this would be, but it may be Ziklag.  1 Sam 27:1-12 describes David living there after fleeing Saul and joining himself to the King of Gath.  Also 1 Chron 12 describes his stationed there.  Or it may be any of the towns east of Gaza.

Nice article. ☺

"there was Jehovah’s word for him, and it went on to say to him: “What is your business here, E·lijah?" To this (Elijah) he said: “I have been absolutely jealous for Jehovah the God of armies"- 1 Kings 19:9, 10 Reference Bible

So now this little rock convinces them that their skepticism all this time has been wrong. How did the

city of Jerusalem come to have such prominence in the history of Israel ? What about the temple mount

and Jerusalem's first temple ? Who penned the Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Solomon ?

How did the Messiah come to be known that he would be a "son of David" ?

These skeptics are loons ! They toss out all this circumstancial history about the two most famous figures

in the history of the Israelite nation, and a little rock convinces them that might have been wrong. Duh ? !

Am I missing something or what ? At any rate, thanks Lisa for letting us know it now has become official.

We can now all sleep tonight....... What would Jesus say ?

easy, brother Michael    :encourage:

At that time those who fear Jehovah spoke with one another, each one with his companion,

and Jehovah kept paying attention and listening..." ~ Malachi 3:16

Renee,

I have had to deal with too much of this line of thinking in my life. There is nothing easy about. It is this type

of thinking that encourages skepticism concerning God's Word. It's as Jesus said to the rich man in the para-

ble of the rich man and Lazarus. " If the do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be persuaded

if someone rises from the dead. In point of fact we have the words of David fortelling the resurrection of Jesus.

( compare Ps. 16:10, Acts 2:22 - 36 ) And this spoke by Peter marked the beginning of the Christain congrega-

tion in 33 c.e. And this as a direct result of the power manifested that day to convince 3000 people he had in fact

rose from the dead, and as the fortold "son of David" was the true Messiah and the hope of Israel and this world.

So yes this little artifact has apparently convinced them that "political activity" was taking place near Jerusalem

in the 10th or 11th century b.c.e. And we welcome any and all confirmations of God's Word. But is truly strikes

me as "loony", in view of all of the weight of evidence that is available, and has been for centuries, that at this late

date this find has convinced these "scholars" of the historical accuracy of the Bible.

These scholars choose to believe that the prophesies relating to the destruction of Jerusalem written by Isaiah and others could not have been written so far in advance of the effect - they must, according to them, have been written post exilic.  They also claim that these "elites" who returned to Jerusalem then had to recreate the culture or the "cult" of Zion, including writing the majority of the Hebrew Bible to fit in with their story of why the Jews were exiled.  They then think this is when the "stories" of King David etc gained momentum, but more in a King Arthur sort of way - legendary.

The same for the exodus and what came after.  These scholars claim that there is "no evidence" of that, and that the Israelites were just another Canaanite tribe surviving like the rest of them in that area of the Levant.

No wonder 1 Cor 1 18 - 21 rings true:

For the speech about the torture stake* is foolishness to those who are perishing,+ but to us who are being saved, it is God’s power.+ 19  For it is written: “I will make the wisdom of the wise men perish, and the intelligence of the intellectuals I will reject.”*+ 20  Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe?* Where is the debater of this system of things?* Has not God made the wisdom of the world foolish? 21  For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not get to know God+ through its wisdom,+ God was pleased through the foolishness+ of what is preached to save those believing.
