Orchids

I received this beautiful combo of orchids from a sister and want to keep it growing. HELP! I know nothing about them. I need to learn.

Beautiful....I know nothing about how to take care of them either, but I will follow this thread to find out. I know somebody in this forum will know.

I really hope so. I will google it but there's nothing better than first hand experience with something. There might be certain nuances in their care that'll make a difference. I've seen too many people kill an orchid, I do not want to be one of them!

Hi Cheryl. They look like Phalaenopsis Orchids. There is a huge variety of sizes and colours. Try this website www.phalaenopsiscare.net to find out about watering, feeding, etc. They are reasonably easy to care for and they flower for months. Enjoy!

See...I knew some friends would know and I'm not surprised that it came from across the pond! They have beautiful flowers over there as well.

I just heard they need water from the bottom not the top. That's easy enough. And being hearty is good too. I generally don't have trouble with plants but exotic's aren't my specialty. I just got a Ponytail Palm too, have to look more up on that one. It was a gift as well. Beautiful plant.

If they are well cared for orchids will reward you year after year. Once the spray has finished flowering, I usually cut it down by about a third, at about an inch from a joint, and this sometimes encourages it to put out another spray. You have to be patient though!   For the first time ever, I have a phalaenopsis which is sprouting three little plantlets instead of putting out a new sprays!

Oops!  I guess I should have looked up the word "Anglophile" and not just assumed it meant you were born in the UK!!
