Wednesday, February 9

Happy is the man who keeps on enduring trial.—Jas. 1:12.

When the disciple Stephen was murdered, many Christians fled from Jerusalem and “were scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria,” eventually as far away as Cyprus and Antioch. (Acts 7:58–8:1; 11:19) We can only imagine the hardship the disciples had to endure. Still, they eagerly preached the good news wherever they went, and congregations were established throughout the Roman Empire. (1 Pet. 1:1) But far more turbulent times lay ahead for the early Christians. For instance, about the year 50 C.E., Roman Emperor Claudius ordered all Jews to leave Rome. So Jews who had become Christians were forced to abandon their homes and relocate elsewhere. (Acts 18:1-3) About 61 C.E., the apostle Paul wrote that his fellow Christians had been publicly reproached, put in prison, and plundered. (Heb. 10:32-34) And just like other people, Christians had to endure poverty and sickness.—Rom. 15:26; Phil. 2:25-27. w21.02 26-27 ¶2-4

You can't walk with God while holding hands with the Devil.

We don't normally associate joy with trials. Most people think that the only way to be happy is with money, things, prominence or  health. The joy this scripture expresses is much deeper than that type of joy. This is inner satisfaction that won't fade in the face of trials, because we know that Jehovah is on our side and we are doing what he wants us to do. When we face a trial don't look at it as "poor me", look at it as an opportunity to strengthen our faith. Keep in mind, "this too will pass" and "better days ahead". Excuse the quotes but these are the things that I focus on when enduring a trial. Perspective is everything!

For a second thought, I recently had a bad work related accident (12/20/2021) where I broke my back and arm. Not only am I dealing with the intense pain of both injuries, but also with the mental anguish knowing I can't work for an entire year and I am my family's sole provider. While I was lying in the hospital I seen Jehovah’s incomparable hand in caring for me when the blood issue loomed over my head. After seeing that, a great calm came over me and my wife both. The worry of how we will survive w/o an income melted into the background. Since then time and again, Jehovah has shown to me He has everything  in full control.

"This too will pass" and "Better Days are Ahead!"
