Second monitor play back

Recommended Posts

At the kingdom hall we have a second monitor for playback and that monitor will go on the tv's for us. I know a lot of halls are like this now a days but when bringing up pictures from JWlibrary for the Watchtower or using vlc media if we click on zoom on the first monitor the yearly text or pictures we have displayed will minimize. would anyone know how to fix this so this doesn't happen anymore?

Step 1: read the instructions provided by the branch and make sure all of your settings are set exactly like the branch says.

Step 2: see step 1

Step 3: see step 2

This is a common problem with the interaction of zoom, JWL, VLC et al.  Generally speaking if all of the settings are correct and the instructions are followed it will work.  The only time we have problems at our hall is when someone deviates from the instructions.

Without knowing your setup and configuration it is difficult to say 'this or that' will fix the problem.  The 3 most common problems are

  • Zoom not being set to use dual monitors
  • JWL not being set to use the 2nd monitor
  • The TVs not being set to be a 2nd monitor

Hello Trippyx87, this can be frustrating and embarrassing, thank you for coming here to find some relief. It helps if you isolate individual issues and adjustments. The computer extends to the second monitor and JW Library has a feature that takes advantage of this. It is an option in JW Library Settings. When the image is displayed on the second screen and the operator attempts to Share the screen using the Zoom feature, the image on the second screen will minimize, or in some cases, will go black.

The advice to make sure the instructions from the branch are followed is very good advice. However, it seems this issue is a recent, possibly tied to the 5.10.4 update, but not the first time Zoom has gotten "grabby". The work around is to 1) Open the media on JW Library, first monitor, 2) Pause the media. 3) Share Screen using Zoom, first monitor, directing second screen to be shared. 4) Play the media (If video) In JW library. If the second screen blanks or minimizes, pause the media. Tap or click the JW Library icon in the task bar of the first monitor. If that doesn't work, open settings in JW Library and cycle the option to Play Video on Second Display. When the media is displayed correctly, resume playback.

It is an interesting issue, as I can duplicate it on one KH AV system, but I cannot with the same settings on another system. Each KH is a bit different with computer equipment, video and sound capabilities.

I encourage you to look at the branch instructions, research and find the solution that works best for your KH.  Please reply here as to whether this helped you or if you found another solution.

Thanks!
