Merriam-Webster added 690 words to its dictionary in September, 2023

What an interesting list of new words. It's interesting how language has changed over the years, and I am primarily speaking of English. The headline for the article I read is here in the Northwest and they featured one word in particular: "Beast Mode" defined as "beast mode noun, slang : an extremely aggressive or energetic style or manner that someone (such as an athlete) adopts temporarily (as to overpower an opponent in a fight or competition)".

 

I also liked a new sports term they call the "Kiss-and-Cry" which means "noun: an area adjacent to a skating rink where figure skaters wait for their marks immediately after performing in a competition."  This is what it could have been called in the old days of being in the Ministry School (for me starting in the 1960's). You give your talk sit down and then the school counselor would tell you everything you did wrong! Glad those days are behind us. I can't even remember the last time a talk was stopped for timing!
