More joy in giving than receiving

Recommended Posts

Last night a sister called my wife, this sister's mother is currently in the hospital.  She had asked an elder in our hall if he could drop off some medical equipment to her mother.  She needed it before 8am today.  This elder however lives about 20 minutes away from the sister and the hospital is located another 15 minutes after from them in the downtown area.  The sister felt bad because it would take about 1 1/2 away from him just to do this favor.

I work in the downtown area and live just a few blocks away from them.  Because of this, the sister asked my wife if I could do it instead.  She was very embarrassed asking us for this favor.  My wife asked me and I said yes I could do it.  It would put me out a little, I would need to leave work 20 minutes earlier than usual, and my wife would need to walk the dog (my responsibility) but honestly I did it because it was the Christian thing to do.  I wasn't bothered by it, but I really only did it because I felt I had to do it as a good follower of Christ.

The morning came and I woke up early and drove to the hospital.  I dropped off the medical equipment and got back in the car.  As I turned the car on, I was filled with an enormous amount of joy.  I just felt great.  I start thinking about how if we follow Jehovah how he rewards us.  I started thinking about the scripture "there is more joy in giving than in receiving".  I felt happy and proud to be a part of Jehovah's organization.  It even strengthened my faith a little.

I just wanted to share this, as I have felt soo good all morning.

It's so true, well done. Giving is so much better, whatever it is, in gift, in word, or in work. Jehovah is the great giver, all we can do is try to humbly copy his way of giving.

You  also notice that if you give a present to someone, you get more fun out of them opening it than they do.
