"We are awaiting a new date for the trial. It will be necessary for the President of the Supreme Court to set a new date so that the judges can decide on their vote. According to reports, this will happen in the coming months. For now, we can only wait for this new date."

The congregations in Brazil received the following announcement:

Judgment in the Supreme Federal Court (STF): We greatly appreciate your prayers regarding the judgment on August 8th. On that day, the STF was gathered only to hear our defenses, so no decision was made.

1. Our request was to receive medical treatment without the use of blood and for the SUS (Brazilian Unified Health System) to cover this type of treatment. Now, we have received information that the date has been set for the STF to begin deciding whether this will be approved or not. The judgment will begin on September 18, 2024. The session will start at 2:00 PM. However, since the STF will also be judging other matters on that day, we do not know the exact time when our case will be judged. Those who wish to watch the judgment can do so through the Rádio e TV Justiça website: https://radioetvjustica.jus.br/.

2. Therefore, we ask that you pray for Jehovah to continue blessing this matter and that, if it is Jehovah's will, the STF judges decide in favor of Jehovah's Witnesses. — 1 Timothy 2:1, 2.

Today the trial resumes in the Supreme Federal Court (STF) concerning the issue of blood and Jehovah's Witnesses and their right to receive treatment through the Unified Health System (SUS).

How will the trial proceed? As it is being conducted in the plenary session, all 11 ministers will have the right to vote. These votes are usually lengthy (some can be up to 500 pages), so the trial will not be concluded today. There is also the possibility of one of the ministers requesting a review, which is when a minister asks for more time to analyze the matter. If no minister requests a review, we will have the result in the coming days. We need 6 favorable votes for the case to be ruled in our favor. Generally, the other ministers follow the rapporteurs (the ministers who were chosen to analyze the case), so we must pray that the rapporteurs are favorable. A favorable point is that in 2019, Minister Barroso decided in our favor in a monocratic decision, and today he is one of the rapporteurs. Throughout the afternoon, I will provide updates on the case.

Around 6:00 PM (Brazil time), the President of the Supreme Federal Court, Minister Barroso, decided to schedule our case for tomorrow, September 19, at 2:00 PM (as our case will be the first of the day). Therefore, there is a good chance that we will spend the entire afternoon with our trial tomorrow.

O Ministro-Relator Barroso, em seu voto, afirmou que na primeira parte de seu voto manterá sua posição de 2019, que respeita a vontade de um indivíduo adulto e capaz de recusar a transfusão.

But as he said, there will be several decisions, but in the first one, thanks to Jehovah, we came out victorious.

So far, 3 judges have voted, and all three votes were in our favor. There will be 10 votes in total (as one of the judges is hospitalized with pneumonia), so we need 3 more votes for Jehovah to grant us this victory! At this moment, the session is in recess.

Today, our trial began. We received 5 votes in favor of both respecting our position and having the government cover the treatment through the public health system (SUS). This includes not only the treatment but also accommodation and transportation if traveling to another city is necessary. There are still 6 votes remaining. However, if just one more judge votes in our favor, we will win the case. The trial will resume on Wednesday, September 25th at 2:00 PM (Brazil time).

In my opinion, although they have not voted, some of the judges who have yet to vote have somewhat indicated that they will follow the rapporteur’s vote on the cases. Therefore, very likely, with faith in Jehovah, we may have a unanimous and collegial decision in favor of the brothers.
