despite the prayer from the Archbishop.

from the Daily Mail

The Archbishop wrote the prayer on his blog. Under the title 'A Prayer for Andy Murray', he wrote: 'Loving God we are so filled with hope by the Wimbledon final today! Guide Andy Murray in the choices that come to him with every ball. Make us all the best that we can be, by your Holy Spirit, through Jesus Christ, to the glory of God our Father. Amen.'

I don't know why this seems like the kind of thing to pray for. I don't know if there has ever been a discussion of this in the literature, pointing to scriptures, but for a religious leader to pray publiclly about the outcome of a ball game (other than praying that everybody gets out of it healthy) just doesn't seem appropriate. Ball games seem to encourage regional loyalty, not because one region is better than the other, but for getting bragging rights and competition.

On the other hand, brothers (and not a few sisters) follow and cheer over them all with great enthusiasm.
