Anyone other than me watching this?

I have things I like and things I want to complain about, but ... you'd have to see it to understand.

Like - it really has me thinking about the time period and the Romans involvement. It also made me relook at several accounts and how they might have actually happened.

Do not like - they clearly believe in the trinity, but at the same time they seem to leave Jesus a little clueless, but I did like the idea of Jesus working out the Sermon on the Mount before he gave it - even some practice sessions. That would have been interesting.

We have enjoyed watching the series. I find some details that are not accurate. I like the tension between Peter, Andrew & Matthew. I like the portrayal of Phillip and his carefree spirit and how he helped Matthew. I enjoy watching Bible movies and try to analyze them for accuracy. I liked the Gospel of John with Henry Ian Cusick.  As far as the Chosen, my favorite episode is "Jesus Loves the Little Children". It shows he has a sense of humor and how teachable children are. And I like the letter he leaves for her.

I know some will condemn it for not being accurate or that it was not being a JW project. I look it as a tool. It helps me to understand what I know is accurate while providing a mental image of what those events may have looked like.

I've been wanting to watch it, just haven't gotten around to it. The only thing I've heard of is that scene you mentioned, working out his sermon, and also talking with one of the writers about how to write a section. That's a pretty fun take if you ask me. I'm not against creative liberties. My wife comes from a Baptist background, so I'm not sure if it's going to gel with her conscience or not. Guess I just have to ask and find out!

If you get to season 4 (season 5 is not out, but that will be the arrest, hanging and possibly aftermath) -

I did not like the idea that he would NOT heal his apostles. And during one we see the fiance of Thomas get killed while Jesus could have either healed her or resurrected her, but he doesn't. It really leaves a bad taste in Thomas - especially since he resurrects Lazarus shortly after . It seems this is the writer's idea of how he becomes "doubting".

My wife and I have had quite the discussion about these things.

Yes, Paul was left with a thorn in his flesh, but ... would Jesus do that while he was alive on earth? I just can't see it - and of course there is no mention of any of that in the Bible. It is clearly there for drama, but also conversation - who gets healed and who doesn't and why.

I think they went too far with the fiancée storyline, but Jesus not healing his apostles I don't find it that surprising honestly.

Healing miracles were to give evidence of his messianic identity to the public and the apostles were already convinced that he was the Son of God so he I don't think Jesus was under obligation to heal any physical affliction his apostles would have had

Like us today, the apostles were waiting for the Kingdom for that

I really like how they show Jesus as just like one of the others, no piousness or certain demeanour that made him stand out, having a sense of humour. It shows his humility to a degree. I like the aspect of how his miraculous power may have drained on his physical vitality, after one of the episodes we see Jesus almost collapsed from exhaustion in his tent after tending to a big line of people wanting to be healed. Shows how much he loved mankind.

I didn’t really like the fact of them showing Jesus as a sort of rule breaker for the law of Moses when he actually carried it out perfectly. By him stating “I am the Law of Moses” in one scene hints at that, when the Bible says that he was under it. (Gal. 4:4) Also, I didn’t like the parts of Peter calling John the Baptist “creepy John,” Jesus pulling up John the Baptist about going to reprove Herod or the fact that it hints at the apostles compiling their gospel account writing it down there and then whilst Jesus was going about his ministry. Also, the way in which it depicts Jesus collecting the apostles kind of irritates me as it deviates from the Bible (no mention of spending all night in prayer to God about picking them as the 12). But, I get that it makes an interesting storyline for film by showing a backstory to all the apostles.

Overall, it’s a good loosely based adaptation and pictures Jesus’ humanity in one of the best ways than I’ve seen before. But, the accuracy isn’t consistent and incorporates some false doctrines as Jerry mentioned.

Just a warning to know the gospel accounts well before watching it. :)

Jesus healed Peter's mother-in-law. Later on, Peter disown him three times.

I'm not saying it's a cause-effect case. Just saying.
