Memorial Reading Schedule

This schedule is a lovely way to keep track by checking the boxes after completing the reading.

Today’s reading was brief, but a lot of activity is embraced in the verses:

  • All male Israelites had to attend the Passover in Jerusalem and many went with their family, so there were people everywhere, filling up all available lodging and even wherever they could put a tent.
  • Ceremonial cleanness was required under penalty of death in order to acceptably celebrate the Passover
  • Jesus made an arduous journey from Jericho at 820 feet [250 m] below sea level up to Bethany at 2,500 feet [760 m] to stay at Lazarus’ home, about 3 km or about an hour’s journey from Jerusalem, arriving before sunset, when the Sabbath, Nisan 8, began.

The bible reading in the daily text doesn't start until tomorrow.  This one started Friday

Does anyone know if Alexa can read the memorial bible reading for each day?  If so, what is the command?

Yes Alexa should read it for you, I noticed that they start a day apart which is a bit odd

The modern Jewish calendar is one day out from the biblical one that we use, so Jewish Passover occurs the day before ours. The modern Jewish Rabbinic calendar uses the Hillel II system.

You’re correct that the modern Jewish calendar uses a fixed system tied to Hillel II. No argument there.

But saying it’s “one day out”? That’s oversimplifying it.

The difference isn’t fixed. It moves. It depends on how that calculated calendar lines up with the actual new moon and the spring equinox. Some years it might look like a day. Other years, it won’t.

You’ve got two different systems working from two different approaches—you can’t expect them to land on the same mark every time.

So yeah, the methods are different. But that one-day idea? That doesn’t really hold up.

Good point, David, it's out by one day this year. Hillel II uses a fixed 19‑year Metonic cycle with predetermined leap years (years 3, 6, 8, 11, 14, 17, 19). variation can apparently be up to 30days. This 'new' Jewish calendar has been fixed since 838 CE.
