It took a while for Star Trek to grow on me.... I didn't like the way evolution is promoted. And science and technology as being the answers to everything. And all the telepathy stuff, seems too much like spiritism.

But despite that, there were many interesting stories and the ST characters really strived to hold to their principles for the general good.

Considering that there are so many worse shows on television, I came to see Star Trek as rather uplifting (if you are careful to not allow yourself to consider the evolution stuff and other questionable ideas).
