CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (CBS4) – For several weeks mysterious gunfire in Douglas County hit cars, windows and buildings. Now the shooting spree might be over.

On Friday night a special Douglas County task force heard a report of shots fired outside a Walmart store. Moments later two men were arrested.

Every window, six in all, has at least one bullet hole, some have two. Inside the Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall the bullets kept on going. Mike Surran showed CBS4′s Howard Nathan the damage caused to his assembly hall near Castle Rock.

“The bullet came through the window and entered the wall,” Surran said.

Two chairs were also hit.

“The police had to open up the fabric so they could remove the bullets,” Surran said.

Fortunately, no one was sitting in them.

“It was an empty building, 11 p.m.; we’re happy no one was here. Nobody was injured.”

Being a house of worship, some members wondered if it was a hate crime. Police believe the vandalism last Saturday was a part of a random pattern of potshots carried out for weeks throughout Douglas County.

“This is not good. It puts a lot of fear into the community,” Surran said.

It apparently came to an end near the Walmart Friday night. Ten to 15 shots were reported outside the store in Castle Rock with a truck being hit. A special Douglas County crimes unit responded and moments later police stopped a car and arrested Nicholas Deters, 20, of Larkspur and Tyson Olson, 29, of Parker.

Deters and Olson have been charged with illegally firing a weapon, criminal mischief and reckless endangerment. Olson was taken to the Douglas County Detention Facility and Deters is now out on bond.
