Awesome Sloppy Joe's

Recommended Posts

Just made a big pot of Sloppy Joe's to serve tonight as sliders at the lounge. Started with a couple of diced onions, chopped celery--about 6 stalks--and two chopped red bell peppers. Sauted those in two T of butter and two T of olive oil then added 1/2 cup of packed brown sugar. In the meantime I browned 5 lbs of lean hamburger and 2 lbs of Jimmy Dean sausage then seasoned with salt, pepper, red pepper flakes to taste, and about 1/3 cup Worchestershire sauce. There was no fat to drain from the meat mixture so I poured in a can of diced tomatoes and a can of tomato paste and 1 cup dried cranberries. Simmered on low in a crockpot and will serve on small rolls that have been toasted. Yummy!
