This story made me think of 1 Cor 15:54-57:
then the saying will take place that is written: “Death is swallowed up forever.” 55 “Death, where is your victory? Death, where is your sting?” 56 The sting producing death is sin, but the power for sin is the Law. 57 But thanks to God, for he gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!"3

The first sting I had with cancer was when my beloved grandfather died February 18, 1969 at 9:30 am. Why do I remember this so well? I had stayed home from school and my aunt Bee came up to the door and before she even knocked I knew he had died. I ran and threw myself on bed and cried and cried. Just as I am doing right now. I miss him so much!

Then when I was living in South Carolina I made friends with a brother about 5 years younger than me. Brian was a different kind of brother and walked a different path. He got interested in a sister 25 years older than him. And yes he did marry her. I was the photographer for the wedding and they were a beautiful couple. Brian developed cancer and died 3 years after the marriage. His death troubled me for many years.

Amazing how the Scriptures and getting older change your perspective. I hate the word cancer, I hate what it does. But I have strong faith, hope and a guarantee that cancer will be eliminated. I share this not to make you sad or cry, I share this to build you up and to have faith.
