Why Take Notes at the Meeting?

Recommended Posts

Why take notes at meetings...

A little girl and her family were on their way to the Kingdom Hall. Half way into the trip, the little girl all but shouted: "STOP! We have to go back home!"

After settling down from the sudden outburst from the back seat, the father responded: "Why? What's wrong, honey?"

"Dad, we HAVE to go home now. We just HAVE to!"

Seeing the concern in her eyes, and a little tear forming in the corner, he said:"Okay, little one, we will......we will. Can you please tell me why?"

With a brief sigh of relief, she exclaimed, "Because I forgot my notebook."

The father and mother smiled to each other. "Oh, I see. Well, that's okay. You can....."

"No, it's NOT, Daddy!" the little girl interrupted, choking back her tears that were beginning to well up in her eyes. "Don't you remember, Daddy? The story of the people of Noah's day? Remember, they took no notes and the flood came and swept them all away!"

Ha! I thought this was going to be based on a true story. Maybe it was at one time. Kids do take things literally.

Heh heh. This made me think of something....

A friend of mine, when she was just a little older than a toddler, looked at a Watchtower or Awake that had a picture of some pimped out rapper holding a microphone. She looked at her mom with the most dejected look on her face and said "He's probably singing 'Happy Birthday!'"

:lol1:

On a more serious "note" (tongue in cheek) taking act of physically writing out notes helps the information go from short-term memory to long-term, especially if you use different colours.

That is so true!

I should show you my public talk outline. I use this technique called mind mapping where you draw a map using colors, pictures, and squiggly lines. My 30 minute talk is composed of 4 different maps, and I hardly ever have to look down, cuz I can visually see the map above everybody's head while I am giving the talk.

I can't take notes!!!!!! I want to write everything down word for word!!!!!!!! My wife has tried to teach me how, and I tried just writing simple short lil things pertaining to the talk, then when I look at it afterwards, it just looks like someone who's trying to take notes, just to take notes and look like he's taking good notes. So I just scrub the idea, put the headphones on and fall asleep!!! :D Sorry, had to say that. Last district convention, I was SO tired!!! Up all night... I fell asleep and then...... BAM!!!!!!!! My wife smacked me across the head with a bible. The row behind us busted up laughing, the people sitting next to me were MAD!!!! The row in front of us all ducked like something was coming at them instead. It was a complete Kodak moment!!! LOL!!!

that's pretty funny micah, but it could have had bad repercussions...thinking mainly about the disrespect toward the use of the Bible! but reminds me of a funny story about my husband. when we were newly married we had gone on trip and were really tired when we got back. at the mtg, my husband kept "almost" falling asleep. i would watch out of corner of my eye and sure enough he fell totally asleep. he woke himself up but not before he drooled on his watchtower! we both started laughing hysterically silently. you know, no sound but we are shaking in our seats! our poor watchtower conductor looked at us from stage with puzzled look cause he couldn't figure out what was so funny!

Ok ALL 3 of those are funny! :lol1: I really like the one about the attendant handing them the paper with the scripture to read...that is great! When I was younger my one friends mom used to fall asleep during just about every convention and assembly. I used to sit behind her and randomly during the sessions you would see her head fall forward and then jerk up really fast it was SO funny. When I would sit by her she would be taking notes and then all of a sudden her hand would fall to the side and she would have a huge line running down the side of her notebook and skirt. Eventually she made us sit in front (thinking we wouldn't make fun anymore)......thats ok you could still hear her snore and on the break you knew she fell asleep because she had that special mark on her skirt that gave it away. I found out recently though that the sudden jerk movement of your neck can cause serious damage to yourself. Makes perfect sense I just never thought of it before. I am glad that she never injured herself but of course as a kid seeing a 30 something year old fall asleep after they lecture you to stay awake during the meetings made you laugh. I visited my parents assembly where she goes not to long ago and she STILL falls asleep! lol, I will ALWAYS remember those days!

Hi Brother Bob, can I see it? Hehe I want to learn also giving a talk without a manuscript. If that's ok with you cuz I will be giving a talk this coming March 6. :)

...But as for me and my household, we will serve Jehovah (Josue 24:15).
