Do you have an E book Reader?

Recommended Posts

Bob,

I am planning to save up to buy an E-reader. Which one would you recommend? (I'm planning to get it to have all the Watchtower downloads available on a tablet for easy access.) They are on my lap top right now. Thanks.:sunshine:

I'm not Bob but I would recommend a "Nook". You can read the publications in epub on the Nook. There is a black and white Nook for around $100.00

or you can get the color Nook for over $200.00. If you don't care about the color you can save money. They both come with wifi to download your books.

I have a Kindle and really like it but not for our JW Bible or WT and A. If you get a Kindle then you have to convert the PDF or epub to Mobi. It can read the PDF but not comfortably.

Thanks Vernalee, I really appreciate it!!!(<img src=)'>

But I find that Calibre converts the ePub to Mobi quickly and accurately and the Bible and mags display great on the Kindle. The pdf of Examining Scrips Daily displays very well. Calibre is very good and is free. http://calibre-ebook.com/

Perhaps it is a software update thing, Vernalee?

That's true Bob, I haven't tried it for a while. I have Win XP and calibre tends to freeze up on me.:perplexed:

Hmmm. I use Windows XP Home, and no probs - although there have been regular updates to Calibre (at least 2 in the few days I have had it!)

My only gripe with my Kindle so far is that it is hit-and-miss with connecting to my wi-fi network (a secure one) but we had this problem for a while with my wife's netbook, too. (Not that I need the connection just now.)

BTW - who is Bob?

You've just touched on one of the best reasons for buying an eBook reader. The number of times I've wanted to read in bed and not wanted to disturb my poor wife by turning the bedside light on. I even tried using a penlight torch, but I just got a headache. You can read eBooks in the dark! I tried downloading an eBook app for my BlackBerry, but it didn't work. It won't be long before they become really cheap and I can afford one... :readbible:

I have a Kindle and you still need a light.

If you are speaking to me... I am currently E-reader illiterate. I don't have one, and probably never will, as I think my laptop and Android phone do all that they can as it is.

Yes I meant you Bob.:punk: I am E-reader illiterate also. My sister-in-law showed me her E-reader but it's expensive. It's a MAC. She paid $500.00. Vernalee was sweet enough to answer me and let me know that a Nook is good. Thanks to both of you!!!(<img src=)'>

That's sounds like a tablet computer to me. I got one and can't figure out how to use it. If your not looking for it to go on line to shop and all that stuff and you want to be able to read books and the Watchtower and Awake on it then you only want a Nook and if you don't care about color you can get one for around 100 bucks on ebay. That's what I thought I was getting when I bought my Kindle but it doesn't read the PDF files or the epup the Watchtower comes in so that's why I say get the Nook. If you do get one and want a place to get cheap novels I can send you the info. If your looking for something like a computer then you can get off brand ones for around $250.00. I still wish I had picked up the Nook. If I can sell the things I bought then I'll get one.

Happy shopping. Dawnmarie said she's not crazy for the Sony she bought either.

I love my Kindle. I downloaded the dramas and if I put my earphones on and close my eyes' date=' I can picture the drama in my head. Wonderful![/quote'] I haven't used my Kindle for that. Now I've gotta try it. Thanks for reminding me.

Hi Dave, I have the Nook Tablet. I get the mags and NWT on it with no problem, what I am struggling with is the Watchtower Library! I have installed the mobile version of the WTL but the Nook can't read it, I then bought iSilo app from the Barnes and Noble store and it will get a bit farther with the WTL but only brings up symbols instead of English....(frustration overload is looming)...any suggestions?

For listening to audio dramas- or audio rips of video dramas -I prefer a small in size mp3 player with small headphones so I can listen in bed before going to sleep-without disturbing anyone. An ereader may be convenient to listen to while traveling- however it uses up battery charge much faster.

I do have an ereader- a Sony prs 650 refurbished ( No WiFi but has metal case, 1 sd card, 1 memory stick slots & reads most file formats of ebooks including Word and PDF ) and bought from Best Buy for $80 -online some greedy ones are asking up to $400 for something that had listed for $250 new-even after the new T1 came out. Now with the newer T1 model ( plastic case-has WiFi ) selling for about $100 new ( list was $150-170 depending upon country ) it opens up the world to more users. Not sure if it reads Word files but is suppost to have larger memory and battery lasts longer ( more page turns ) -My older one boasts 12,000 page turns or about 2 weeks charge for e reading ( 3 hours a day ).

Consciousness, that annoying time between naps!

Hi Dana! Hi Everyone! I currently do not have an eReader, but I do plan on getting one. I am leaning towards the Kindle Fire. Right now though, I have two different eReaders on my laptop (which is about the size of a tablet since it is a Dell mini) -- Kindle for PC and Adobe Digital Editions. I have also downloaded Calibre to convert pdf files into the file format that the Kindle app can read. But to be honest, my HTC Android can read eBooks as well. The screen size of course isn't as big as you would find on a tablet, but for me -- it does the job.

I love being able to listen to the Watchtower mp3s and read right along through an eReader app. If you haven't tried this yet, I strongly recommend doing so.

Melanie, I have a Kindle Fire and really like it for reading books. I ended up getting it rooted so I could get some good apps I found. If you do get one I have some of the books that have been converted to Mobi by a brother who does a great job. Let me know and I'll send them to you. Personally, I wish I had purchased a Nook because it can read right from JW.org without having to redo them.

I wish I could find the brothers email so I can keep in touch with him as he does the Wt for study. It is awesome.
