The new name for atheist individuals in the military is "humanist". The Pentagon has now added this designation for religion to the military records for many reasons such as, funerals, and they are even adding a chaplain for this religious denomination.

The article further explains that these people who choose to describe their religion as humanist are those who choose a scientific explanation and maximization of human happiness...

Some years ago I read scientist and author Isaac Asimov (one of my favorite writers) was a Humanist. I did some research and found Humanists don't believe in God or don't think it's wise to expect any help from him, but believe in being good persons and helping their neighbor.

That's quite contradictory. If there's no God, then there's no such thing as good or evil. From an evolutionist viewpoint, only the strongest survive, often at the expense of the weakest. There's no point in helping the less apt, they're bound to extinction.

On the other hand, I think Humanism demonstrates that man has spiritual needs. Even those who don't believe in God need something to try and fill their inner emptiness.

I hope Asimov will change his mind (one of the brightest in the world) when he is resurrected. :)

Very interesting information I appreciate the input on the subject. When you stated that it was basically a filler for that missing need...that is what caught my attention to the article. Smart way of describing this belief. Thank you brother!
