San Andreas - another disaster movie, this time about "the Big One"

San Andreas (2015)

 

In the aftermath of a massive earthquake in California, a rescue-chopper pilot makes a dangerous journey across the state in order to rescue his estranged daughter.

 

The film is basically about "the big one", a huge earthquake that may actually take place in the next few years or decades. Though expected to have the intensity of between 6.9 and 7.4, who's to say that a 9.1 or even more devestating won't happen in our lifetime?

 

Be warned. I got goosebumps watching this trailer.

 

Apart from the typical disaster movie "everything falls apart" narrative, I hope this film goes into the details of a societal collapse and martial law scenario as well. Have to say though, it looks like it will probably be just another disaster movie.

You think? I watched 2012 and it was so horribly overblown to the point of it actually being funny. The earthquake in this movie is maybe a 10 or an 11 on the moment magnitude scale, the earthquakes in 2012 are like a hundred times more powerful.

 

An earthquake like in that trailer may actually take place during our life-time. The seismic wave shaking San Francisco looks pretty realistic but not over the top.

For some reason my favourite movie genre is disaster movies.

I cannot wait for this one.
