The Root of the Matter

Recommended Posts

The first thing that happened when I powered my new phone and tablet up:

unwanted apps began updating and downloading all kinds of data.

I was using my old tablet's internet hub with unlimited downloading,

so I just clenched my teeth and endured it.

I wanted to root my old tablet.  Rooting allows you to delete

all the bloatware that comes pre-installed and undeletable,

from Google and Verizon, or whoever sells the device.

But, alas, my old tablet wasn't 'rootable'. :(

My new tablet is rootable, but I don't want to void the warranty on it.

Solution:

I found this AWESOME app on Google Play that lets you sort a' root

your phone/tablet without really rooting it and voiding the warranty.

It's free and it's called NoRoot Firewall by Grey Shirts.

NoRoot creates a virtual private network VPN

for you and routes all your other apps through it.

That way, you can see what app is trying to

download/update without permission, and YOU get to control

if and when the app can have access to the internet.

I have all my apps set to only have downloading ability when my phone or

tablet is connected to wi-fi. And, even then, the app can only download

when the device's screen is on.

Those Grey Shirt guys are shear geniuses!!!post-5984-0-95700700-1448162196.gif post-5984-0-73386000-1448162234.gif

Hopefully, NoRoot will mean NoSurprises on my cellular service bill.  ^_^

(We have the cheapest plan, which means we only have 2MB downloading per month.

Which is why I only want to use wi-fi while downloading or surfing the web.)
