In mid-September the final seven of 34 Jehovah’s Witnesses lost their appeals against fines of more than three months’ average wages each. The 34 were punished for participating in a 23 March meeting for worship in a home in the north-western town of Gakh [Qax] which the authorities claim was “illegal”.
