The waters of Babylon the Great recede for different reasons with the Church of England than the Vatican or Greek Orthodox Church (see cash-strapped Italy eyes Vatican thread for that stuff). There has been so much controversy over the ordination of Homosexuals in the Anglican/Episcopalian Church that many African countries have withdrawn Communion with the Church of England. Now a bishop in Zimbabwe has split away claiming this as a reason and taken many Anglican followers with him and laid claim to many of the Church's buildings over the issue, with the blessing of his President, who has no love for Britain over it's Colonial past anyway. The bishop has been excommunicated, but is still retaining the Church buildings and increasing followers. The British Archbishop Rowan Williams (who is supposed to be overseer to the worldwide Anglican community) has felt the need to make a controversial visit to Zimbabwe to rally his remaining flock and appeal to the the President.

Archbishop of Canterbury savages Mugabe in Zimbabwe visit as Williams gives 'sermon of his career'... ...but because Christendom is in such a mess... Yesterday, Kunonga marked the Archbishop’s arrival in the capital by attending a stage-managed protest at St Mary’s Cathedral. Standing in front of 1,000 supporters, he said Williams’s visit was a ‘crusade for gays’. ‘This is a demonstration against homosexuality. I told people to come and demonstrate if they wanted,’ he said. ‘Rowan Williams erred by accepting homosexuality and that has broken up the church all over.’ Kunonga even accused the Archbishop of being gay.

I don't think anyone would dare a protest like this in the US. At least I've never heard of one.

For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.

Some Pentecostals have tried, not protesting here in the UK as such, but just giving out leaflets in the streets of various towns begging them to repent, but ended up in court.

The big protest group here for Gays and Lesbians - Stonewall - is always keen to watch out for any case like that. Anything they view as defamatory could provoke them to get the Police to take a person to court under the 23rd March 2010 Incitement to Hatred Act 29JA "To outlaw threatening behavior or materials intended to stir up hatred against people on grounds of their sexual orientation."
