Christian jukebox (good clean music to listen to)

One of my favorite Bachman-Turner Overdrive songs (Bachman is pronounced "back man") from 1973. This song helped me develop a love for jazz and the blues. Blue Collar sung by bassist Fred Turner, who reminds me of the brother who played Korah in the drama "Respect Jehovah's  Authority" in looks.

"Trouble and distress have come upon me, but your commands give me delight"-Psalms 119:143 NIV Translation.

This album by the Who was released in 1971. This song is "The Song is Over" sung by Pete Townsend of vocals and Roger Daltrey coming in for the last lyric. This album featured there classic 8:34 "Won't Get Fooled Again" which AM radio stations felt was to long and you could not put it on a 45rpm. The record company created an edited version. Edited to three minutes and 38 seconds, the 45 version of "Won't Get Fooled Again" is little more than a miniaturization of the full-length masterpiece.

Editing songs to save time was common in the 70s. Many AM stations were losing listeners to album oriented rock (AOR) that would play full songs, sometimes even the whole side of the album. It was a different time period for music in the 70s. Other examples are the Doors "Light My Fire", Chicago "25 or 6 to 4", Peter Frampton " Do you Feel like we do". Other songs that were not edited, were never played on AM radio.

What a gorgeous arrangement. Song was just released to Youtube about 2 hours ago. Here is the description from the Youtube page:

"You’re watching the official video for George Benson’s orchestral reimagining of the classic Beatles track "Yesterday", with help from Robert Farnon and the Robert Farnon Symphony Orchestra. As featured on the album ‘Dreams Do Come True: When George Benson Meets Robert Farnon’ out now on LP, CD, ATMOS Spatial Audio, Digital and Streaming"

From 1978, Boston's second album, appropriately named "Second Stage", we have the song "Used to Bad News".

We saw them live in Nashville at the old Starwood Amphitheater , it was an outdoor venue, Boston had the spaceship on stage, it was great plus my son in law had free tickets.

"Straight From the Heart" by Gene Clark of the Byrds. I downloaded this song from his official site legally for free. There's no video on Youtube that I can find that has just this song. I really wish that some artist would cover this song! I can think of a few that would do it justice. Gene Clark died at age 46. Drug and alcohol addiction were determined to have contributed to his death. Why are some of the most talented people the ones that are so messed up?

You could not turn on a radio in the 70s without hearing a Three Dog Night song. There name came from the a term used in Australia by the Aboriginal Australians, in which it was explained that on cold nights they would customarily sleep while embracing a dingo, a native species of wild dog. On colder nights they would sleep with two dogs and, if the night were freezing, it was a "three dog night". Thus the name! I was asked to include song title and artist when I post songs as some countries are blocked from certain youtube videos.

This is Shambala from Three Dog Night. And yes we dressed like this in the 70s!

The Dixie Dregs perform Cruise Control. It's hard to classify their genre as it encompasses Southern Rock, Progressive, Jazz and  Classic Rock.

I love to work at nothing all day"-Randy Bachman (properly pronounced "Back-Man")

I also liked his song about former Guess Who bandmate, Burton Cummings called "Hey You" who said Bachman would not succeed after leaving the Guess Who.

I liked some of Roxette's music when I was younger. They were really big in the late 80s and early 90's. I always enjoyed MTV Unplugged. This is the song "The Look". Sadly Marie Fredriksson died in 2019 at age 61 after battling brain cancer which was diagnosed in 2002. One thing I recall was McDonalds had a promo cassette they offered in 1994 called Crash! Boom! Bang! sampler 94. If memory serves me, I think there was some country cassettes  too as a promo in 1992.

One of the best cover bands comes out of the Land Down Under, Australia. The band is called the Hindley Street Country Club. This is their cover of the song by War called Low Rider ( which has a really great intro and outro).

Creedence Clearwater Revisited - I Heard It Through the Grapevine this is the group without lead singer John Fogerty. The vocals are a little weak, but the guitar playing of Elliot Easton (left handed guitarist with the hat) more than makes up for the vocals. Elliot Easton was the lead guitarist for the Cars. When I was learning to speed skate at the roller rink we would practice to this song and keep the same pace for almost 11 minutes. You were drained by the end of the song.

I had a few chances to see this group but chose not to because I thought with no John Fogerty it would not be as good. I was wrong. Fogerty does this song but not the full length version.  This group plays the longer versions of CCR's hits which is what I like. I am not sure if they will ever tour again.

Here's a great song from 1981, Marty Balin of Jefferson Airplane, later Starship sings a song from his solo career called "Hearts".  While with Starship he wrote their smash single "Miracles" from 1975 on their album called "Red Octopus".  Since it's Monday, I will post both songs! Great vocals on both and amazing arrangements.

Supertramp had a great album of Breakfast In America from 1979, that featured this great song about heartbreak and misunderstandings. This is "Casual Conversations". This is one album you should listen to with headphones, it's brilliantly produced.
