This wouldn't be the first time the proposition has been made. Some professors of medicine in Quebec are almost recommending to their medical students that they ignore the medical directive cards Jehovah's Witnesses carry.



Explanation of some names in this article:


Éloïse Dupuis = A sister in Quebec who died shortly after giving birth and refusing a blood transfusion.


PQ = The Parti Québecois, the current opposition party in Quebec.


Gaétan Barrette = The minister of health in Quebec. He personally examined the case of Éloïse Dupuis, and found nothing wrong with the way it was handled. His finding was that Éloïse did indeed make her own informed choice to refuse blood.


Philippe Couillard = The current premier of Quebec, of the Liberal party.
