Facing The Lion Memoirs of Young Girl in Nazi Europe (A Book By a Sister) (Includes some information about the book)

Recommended Posts

I know I've mentioned this book before but it's been a long time. The author is Simone Arnold Liebster, a French sister born in August of 1930.  She and her parents lived in the region of Alsace which along with a neighboring region kept going back and forth between being German and French.  It became French at that time most recently in 1919 but Hitler took over the region and it became German in June of 1940.

She and her parents started becoming deeply interested in Jehovah's Witnesses in the late thirties.  She and her parents went through a lot because of the Nazis including her parents being sent to concentration camps and Simone to a harsh abusive penitentiary house/reform school for juvenile delinquent girls.  They had opportunities to renounce their faith.

Simone mentions in the book that this was a crushing experience that scarred her for many years.  However she clearly never gave up on Jehovah.

I found the book faith strengthening even non-Witness experts that have read it are impressed with her faith and courage.  But of course she did not do it alone.  She did choose to do what was right though.

See my post about her husband's book Crucible of Terror A story of Survival Through the Nazi Storm.
