Some 145 kilometers (90 mi) north of New York City, near the hamlet of Wallkill, New York, is a group of farms that have played an important role in the worldwide Bible educational work of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The first of the Watchtower Farms, as the facilities are now known .... on January 2, 1963.
That was 56 years ago. I have heard so much about the farms. A good time to do some digging.

Sorry for running ahead of time.

October 19, 1941 - Jamaica - All publications of the Watch Tower Society or International Bible Students Association were prohibited from entering the country. This was announced in the government’s official paper, the Jamaica Gazette. However, the organization was not outlawed, and there was still freedom of assembly.

October19, 1987 - was the day of the now famous Crash of 1987, when Wall Street’s stock market took the deepest, fastest plunge in its history, setting off panic around the world.

October 19, 1989 - Those attending the Pioneer school held in the city of Santiago (Philippines) had to deal with an unexpected situation. Rodolfo de Vera, the circuit overseer, related: “On October 19, 1989, Santiago, Isabela, was struck without warning by a supertyphoon with maximum winds of 127 miles per hour [205 km/hr]. When we started our classes that morning in the Kingdom Hall, there were just some showers and a slight wind, so we proceeded with the pioneer school. However, the winds got stronger, and the building began to shake. Soon, the roof was blown off. We wanted to leave, but we saw that it was more dangerous outside because of the many flying objects.” Although the building began to break apart, all survived unharmed. They attribute their survival not only to Jehovah but also to a suggestion in the Awake! magazine to seek protection under a table or a desk during such situations. Brother de Vera said: “We took shelter under the tables. After the typhoon passed, we were covered with fallen branches and metal roofing sheets, but all who had stayed in the building under the tables were unhurt.”

October 19, 2002 - dedication program of Newburgh, NY, Assembly Hall. When the project in Newburgh was near completion, a fire broke out, damaging about 20 percent of the structure. Instead of giving in to discouragement, the brothers responded overwhelmingly to help restore the building. As a result, the restoration project was completed in less than a month, making it possible for the dedication program to be held right on schedule, on.

Thanks for this

October 19- On October 19, 1973, the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of the Philippines, Inc., came into being. This has given added stability to the situation of Jehovah’s Witnesses here.Zone visits during this period have also been a stimulus to the brothers. Members of the Governing Body, such as Milton Henschel, Nathan Knorr and Lloyd Barry, have addressed large crowds, giving great encouragement with their wise counsel and guidance. Also, in August of 1973, the Philippines greatly benefited from a visit by five members of the Governing Body during an international gathering here in Manila.

October 20On October 20, 2012, Jehovah’s Witnesses in Korea rejoiced when their renovated and newly built branch facilities were dedicated to Jehovah. The event was especially meaningful because the brothers were able to look back on 100 years of faithful service. Moreover, in 2012, the number of publishers exceeded 100,000 for the first time. Some 1,200 local volunteers and 239 international servants and volunteers from nine countries worked to construct a new residence building, a printery building, audio/video studios, and a vehicle repair garage. In addition, most of the existing buildings were completely renovated.

October 21In 1961 there were just 571 publishers in Honduras, and the branch facilities were more than sufficient, but by 1986, more than 4,000 publishers were reporting and the Bethel Home, even though enlarged in 1978, was no longer adequate. The Governing Body authorized an addition that would more than double the existing space. Work started in October 1987. What a joy it has been to see the international volunteers in action! Together with the willing labor of many congregations, they finished an excellent structure, which was dedicated to Jehovah’s service on October 21, 1989.

An executive order imposing a ban was soon signed, and it took effect on October 20, 1967. The entire nation was notified by a large boldface newspaper headline: “Malawi Bans ‘Danger’ Sect.” Although it was stated that the action had been taken because Jehovah’s Witnesses were “dangerous to the good government of Malawi,” it was obvious that the real reason was their refusal to buy party membership cards.

Beginning October 20, 2008 and continuing for four full weeks, we engaged in a special distribution of a tract entitled Would You Like to Know the Truth?

October 22- On October 22, 1991, a request for registration of the religious association of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Angola was presented to the minister of justice. A news release was also issued to make this request public knowledge. The very next day the Jornal de Angola published an article that said, in part: “According to the spokesman of the Witnesses in Angola, there is optimism as to the recognition of the Association, and the preliminary reception obtained from the Ministry of Justice was satisfactory.” The article also reviewed the history of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Angola, as well as their record in such lands as Portugal and Mozambique, where bans on the activity of Jehovah’s Witnesses had been lifted. For the first time in Angola, favorable publicity was being given to Jehovah’s Witnesses! Several days later, the director of the newspaper said that he had received many phone calls, even from people in influential positions, congratulating him for printing the article.

October 23Shortly after the Branch Committee was formed, the Governing Body directed them to purchase property for a new Bethel Home in Zagreb. Local volunteers and international servants soon built beautiful facilities that would help advance Kingdom interests for many years to come. The new branch facilities and Kingdom Hall were dedicated on Saturday, October 23, 1999, as was a double Kingdom Hall in the center of Zagreb. Delegates from 15 countries were present, including Brother Gerrit Lösch of the Governing Body, who gave the dedication talk. The next day, 4,886 gathered for a delightful spiritual program in a large sports hall. What an unforgettable day that was for Jehovah’s people in Croatia—some of whom had been serving Jehovah faithfully for 50 years or more through some of the most harrowing times in modern history!

October 23 - Despite earlier efforts to make ample provision for future expansion at Bethel, large extensions were needed just 12 years after the complex in Krugersdorp had been dedicated. (Isa. 54:2) During that time, there was a 62 percent increase in publishers in South Africa and in countries under the branch’s supervision. A warehouse and three new residence buildings were built. Additions were also made to the laundry and office block, and a second dining room was provided. On October 23, 1999, all these extensions were dedicated to Jehovah. Daniel Sydlik of the Governing Body gave the dedication discourse.

😩 October 23 - Despite the provisions of equal rights and freedom for all persons guaranteed by the constitution, on October 23, 1967, as announced in The Times of Malawi, the government officially banned Jehovah’s witnesses as an “unlawful society.” This served as a signal for a countrywide attack on Jehovah’s witnesses, who then numbered some 18,000. Again they saw their humble homes ransacked and burned. In the one city of Lilongwe in Central Malawi, 170 homes were burned in just three nights. The total reached 1,095, with 115 Kingdom Halls wrecked. Thousands of Jehovah’s witnesses were beaten and thrown into prison. Other thousands sought temporary refuge by crossing the borders into the neighboring countries of Zambia and Mozambique.

October 24- As a successor to the League, the United Nations came into being on October 24, 1945. Later, the popes of Rome hailed the United Nations as “the ultimate hope for harmony and peace” and “the supreme forum of peace and justice.” Yes, the League of Nations, along with its successor, the United Nations, truly became an idol, a “disgusting thing” in the sight of God and of his people. October 24, 1945United Nations established

The Governing Body has outlined adjustments to the Watchtower Bible School of Gilead. Starting with the 132nd class, which began on October 24, 2011, training will be given only to couples who are already in special full-time service, such as field missionaries who have not yet attended Gilead, special pioneers, traveling overseers, and Bethelites. If a couple speak and write English fluently, their Branch Committee may recommend that they attend.

Gilead graduates will be given assignments that will strengthen and stabilize the field and branch organization, whether as field missionaries, traveling overseers, or Bethelites. Those assigned to serve in the field will be used in densely populated areas where they can have the most profound effect on the preaching activity and on congregation activities. Branch Committees may continue requesting Gilead graduates if there is a particular need in their territory. They may also recommend well-qualified special full-time servants from their own branch territory to attend Gilead School. In some cases, Branch Committees may request that the graduates return to that country after they graduate.

The dedication program of the branch facilities in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, took place on October 24, 2015, just one month after the project was completed. An audience of more than 3,000 in 18 Kingdom Halls and 5 other venues were thrilled to be tied in to the program. Stephen Lett of the Governing Body gave the dedication talk, which had the motivating theme “Serve Jehovah With a Complete Heart.” The following day a faith-strengthening program was presented to the vast majority of the publishers in the country.

October 25-  October 25, 1997, was another milestone in Kenya’s theocratic history—dedication day for a new Bethel complex of 84,000 square feet [7,800 sq m]! The finished project was a grand culmination to three years of dedicated toil. Volunteers from 25 different nations had transformed a muddy, weed-filled, 7.8-acre [3.2 ha] field into a beautiful gardenlike setting for the new branch facility, accommodating 80 members of the Bethel family.
