A day at a museum

Recommended Posts

Following a great visit to the Brunel Museum in Rotherhithe, London a couple of weeks ago, this week my wife took me to the Florence Nightingale Museum at St Thomas’ Hospital, opposite the Houses of Parliament.

A fascinating little museum about the was Florence influenced modern nursing as well as her well-known work in the Crimean peninsular during the Crimean War.  The museum also had interesting information about the nurse Edith Cavell, who helped many injured soldiers escape from German captivity in the First World War. (She was executed by firing squad by the Germans.)

Also Mary Seacole, lesser-known but equally important.

There was also a temporary exhibition concerning the Spanish Influenza epidemic in 1918.  Very interesting information on this significant epidemic, of great interest to us as fulfilling Jesus’ prophecy of the last days.
