Poetry, anyone

I have found that many today seem to shy away from poetry that expresses deep romantic feelings for their spouse, thinking that they are overly sentimental. But I believe that writing love poems for my wife has been a meaningful way for me to reflect on our journey together—how we met, dated, fell in love, and got married.

 

I wrote the following one for her a few years ago on our 41st anniversary. Although our marriage has faced its share of challenges, our mutual love for Jehovah and each other has enabled us to confront and conquer these obstacles. This experience has deepened my love for her over the years. If it is Jehovah's will, we hope to be together forever.

I came to this site as I want to wean myself off being on secular poetry sites, so I looked for an online witness poetry group. I love writing poetry, honing my craft, and I enjoy reading good poetry penned by others. 

Does anyone here like writing various forms of poetry, including rhyming/metered poems, a Haibun, other forms of poetry, brevities, or even free verse? Those last two are my favourites.

Are any of you open to sharing constructive and friendly critiques on what we write? Love to hear your thoughts... : )

Over life I've always loved reading and writing poetry. My first love was Marmion by Sir Walter Scott. "O, what a tangled web we weave, When first we practise to deceive!" When people use the quote I ask, do you know where that came from. 

 

I was sent this from a friend, author unknown.

 

JEHOVAH KNOWS
HE KNOWS YOU'RE TIRED OF BEING STRONG,

YOU'VE FOUGHT THIS BATTLE FOR SO LONG.

HE KNOWS THE STRUGGLE YOU FACE EACH DAY,
FOR A QUIET MIND YOU OFTEN PRAY.

HE KNOWS THE THINGS YOU TRY TO DO,
THAT COME EASY FOR MANY BUT SO HARD FOR YOU.

HE KNOWS THERE ARE DAYS YOU CAN'T SEE,
THE FOREST BECAUSE OF THAT ONE TREE.

HE KNOWS YOU LAY AWAKE AT NIGHT,
WONDERING IF YOU'LL BE ALRIGHT.

HE KNOWS THE EFFORT IT TAKES FOR YOU
TO FACE YOUR FEARS AND KEEP PUSHING THROUGH.

HE KNOWS YOU CARRY A HEAVY LOAD,
YET STILL YOU'RE ON THAT NARROW ROAD.

HE KNOWS THE FRIENDS DON'T ALWAYS SEE
THE PERSON JEHOVAH KNOWS YOU TO BE.

YOU KNOW THAT SOON HE'LL MAKE THINGS RIGHT
AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL THERE IS LIGHT.

YOU KNOW THE BLESSINGS HE HAS IN STORE
THE TIME WHEN ANXIETY WILL BE NO MORE.

YOU KNOW THE SIGNS ARE EVERYWHERE
SO DON'T GIVE UP, YOU'RE ALMOST THERE.

REMEMBER IT IS YOU HE CHOSE,
REMEMBER THAT JEHOVAH KNOWS.
