Red Beans and Rice

Recommended Posts

  • 4 weeks later...

I know how my mom makes it. She cuts up some onions, and I believe she smothers them a bit in oil, then adds the beans in water, then cooks it on a relatively low heat, adding garlic powder/salt, onion powder, celery salt, a little bit of thyme and salt and pepper; I usually add a bayleaf.

My mom and I prefer polska kielbasa in our beans, but different people have different preferences, and my aunt puts salt meat and adds some sausages (kinda like thick pork sausages mixed with onion)

But yeah good that your soaking them. We usually soak them for a while before cooking and remove the bad beans.

Trust me, I'm a New Orleans girl 😉

Does anyone have a family recipe for this? I've never made this before but Lew is craving it and I now have beans soaked

I know this is late, but in the future you may want to try this recipe...to your taste. :)
