apple’s password manager gave this alert about jw.org (?)

Recommended Posts

I think, (AFAIK) that websites such as https://haveibeenpwned.com/ are checking on lists of email addresses, such as those for sale on the dark web.

So the fact you email address shows up means only that you're email address is on one of these lists.  But given the number of data breaches from big company's over the past few years that's not surprising. In fact every older email address I've ever had is on there.

Now, it might, ( but only might) also mean that if a password has been leaked along with your address that might also be there.

So the best thing you can do is change any passwords you might have used on more than one site, or on sites that have had data breaches.

This will secure any account or website you do it on, but your email address will still flag up a warning as it hasn't changed. ( And doesn't need to)

In reality a password used only for JW.org is very unlikely to have been obtained by someone else.

If any doubt check the device history log on jw.org or change the password.

If we are talking about password managers I use LastPass because even though they store the passwords they are all encrypted and the strength of the encryption is based on your mater password which is not stored. Even LastPass does not know what your passwords are so even if they get hacked it will not matter. The passwords are still safe.

I would encourage you to talk to your congregation's jw.org account administrators-asap. In my case they are the cobe and the secretary.

This was announced at my special announcements by group overseer.

My suggestion would be in line with the potential cyber attack announcement from the branch.
