I wanna start learning drawing!!

Recommended Posts

I have zero talent in drawing though.

All I can draw is a dog.
A dachshund.

Just put some dog head and a sausage.. and that’s it!!

No, in fact, I’ve found out about an apple app. The name’s Procreative.

Ever heard of?

What do you think about digital drawing?
Or starting learning drawing in one’s early 30’s?

Its never too late. Ever, to learn to do anything. I'm actually not sure where this belief comes from as I see a lot of 'young' people ask these questions, for example I once saw a 15 year old sad because he thought it was too late to learn how to dance because of his age.

A sister in her.... 70s-80s in our congregation has learned to draw during lockdown, and you'd think she'd done it for years, she's a really good artist, and she's never done it before.

Hi, Matthew. Thanks for the encouragement!!  🙂 I’ve bought an apple pencil just now..haha

Even if I give up soon, at least I’ll be able to use it later to note down a talk..

Hiya .. I've had between 35 - 50 private art students and before I taught home schoolers I was convinced anyone can draw to at least an acceptable degree. And I was right.

I taught portraiture.

It's about understanding technique,  perspective, colour and shading and with people/animals understanding the anatomy helps.

If you want  to start now. (If people are your thing)

Exercise 1. For anyone who wants to give it a try. I will come back each day and see what is uploaded.

Don't be shy! All I want today is a portrait ... head and shoulders of either someone close to you in person or from a photo of someone you know.

Sign and date it. Then upload it here. We need a start point so who cares what it looks like.

Remember many of the artists who draw/paint our pictures for our publications did not have prior experience as artists.

Wow that's such a wonderful and kind suggestion! Thanks so much, sister Mandi. (I didn't know you were an artist)

I'd be mainly interested in drawing people....who are actually not humans but maybe angels or Jesus or aliens.

And maybe some beautiful SCI-FI environments.

I'll keep uploading to here my progress weekly or monthly.. hope others join too~!

I've been drawing since I was a young child, and oddly, I'm very bad at drawing on digital apps. It could be, though that's it's an aspect of drawing that I'm not accustomed to.

So things I've learned drawing that you might find helpful:
It doesn't matter what tools you use to draw, whether it's a pencil or a touchpad, the same principle applies. The most important step in drawing is observing.
I'm actually of the opinion that you don't need natural talent to learn how to draw well. I think what people see as talent is the end result of a lot of practice, because it's something a person took an interest in for years. I believe my recent drawings are better than my drawings when I was 4 or 5,  the drawings I made in art class at 16, and the drawings I made for a correspondence course when I was in my 20's, of course, because I spent a lot of time and struggled a lot with making my artwork either as realistic or as harmonious in its appearance as possible. That takes work and practice for most people.
So, what I'm saying is, if you start drawing and things don't look great the first few times you draw something, it doesn't mean you can't do it. For most people, talent comes with practice, so I hope when you get into it, you find it to be something you really enjoy, and one of the great benefits of drawing is that it can be a really relaxing hobby.
