what was that Noah’s flood related novel written decades ago by

Recommended Posts

This is an interesting story.

In 1878 a Mrs. J. G. Smith published a book entitled Seola. It was a novel set in the days previous to the Flood. Its author was not related to Bible Students.

Brother Russell read that book and recommended a friend to make a revised edition of it. That revised edition (I understand it changed some details of the original to adapt it to the beliefs of Bible Students) was published with the title Angels and Demons. Both editions can easily be downloaded from Google Books.

This is an article from The Golden Age (July 30, 1924, page 702) that recommended this book:

Now I'm reading its introduction hoping to find out if I'll be able to (or want to) translate the whole book.

But a part of the introduction goes like this.

Quote

All students, familiar with the Bible teaching concerning spiritism, will read this book with the keenest interest because it shows the method employed by Satan and the wicked angels to debauch and overthrow the human race. The reviser of this book is of the opinion that the original manuscript was dictated to the woman who wrote it by one of the fallen angels who desired to return to divine favor.

So basically is the reviser saying that the author of the book angels and women was told these stories by a demon?

This may sound weird today but for Bible Students at that time the idea that a demon wanted to repent and go back to Jehovah was not so strange.

I think the reviser maybe mistaken in that a demon was hoping to get back in divine favor. Dictated by a demon or influenced by a demon is more like it.

I have noticed a huge uptick in demonic stories lately.

But Peter, this is not a recent book. It's a novel published in 1924 and promoted by the organization. :)
