He said that when Adam and Eve were "without sin" , they had a close relationship with Jehovah. 

 

Jehovah regularly spoke to them likely by means of his son.

 

Jehovah didn't speak to Adam one-on-one?  Not even before Eve was introduced?

The Bible does not give us an explicit answer to this question. While God could have spoken directly to his perfect human son in Eden, likely He communicated with Adam through the Word.
