Columbia River Bar

Recommended Posts

This video is my world. I cross this river 4 days a week and know most of the people mentioned. A sister who was a good friend was married to a bar pilot for decades.  Her son is one of our elders in the Astoria congregation.

This video shows everything I'm familiar with. I've seen many of the things shown, I've experienced the Columbia River Bar and was nearly hospitalized because of it. This bar is also where a brother a friend, was killed about 3 years ago by a sneaker wave that engulfed his fishing boat. When people are warned about our

dangerous waters believe it!

I subscribe to a lady out of Astoria called the Ship Report. I enjoy her podcast and she posts what ships are coming and going on the Columbia River. She just did a podcast on pilot ships. She also has a Facebook page where you post your ship photos on.

The Columbia Bar is a system of bars and shoals at the mouth of the Columbia River spanning the U.S. states of Oregon and Washington. It is one of the most dangerous bar crossings in the world, earning the nickname Graveyard of the Pacific. The bar is about 3 miles (5 km) wide and 6 miles (10 km) long.

The bar is where the river's current dissipates into the Pacific Ocean, often as large standing waves.

Daydream -

Scientists have discovered that daydreaming is an important tool for creativity. It causes a rush of activity in a circuit, which connects different parts of the brain and allows the mind to make new associations.
