The phone itself is not the problem.

His apps that have been paid for can be downloaded again (without cost) but many don't have a data storage tool so any info he had on them will be lost.

Some apps like Evernote, Catchnotes and other note taking tools do use Sync facility to send updates to his computer if he has set it up.

One disappointment I suffered a few months ago when I lost all my 'On The Ministry" data so I have to rack my brain to remember the info for all my calls and placements.

I would love that app to be ' sync-able'.

Google calendar, is a good one to use as it holds your stuff during a crash . . . but the best place I found to store data is Evernote for back up.

Others here might be able to suggest more. It is a very annoying thing to loose all contacts, emails and photos . . back things up for sure.

I have been thinking of getting it, but i dont want to be bogged down with a 2 year contract (standard in the U.K.)

I have a pay as you go Samsung galaxy s2 and it is a cracking phone, there would have to be something special

on the new iphone for me to get one.

With PAYG do you have to buy the phone? They seem to be expensive. I am looking for cheap way of getting that phone, and not paying hefty amounts for a contract.

Me too. However, you can back up the database and email it to yourself for safe keeping. If you lose your data, just go open the most recent backup that you emailed yourself. The email database function is built in.

Or, backup to SD Card or Internal Memory, and then upload the file to Box.net or Dropbox or Google Drive.
