Best Buy now offers lease to own--Don't!

Recommended Posts

Buying electronics in the United States, Best Buy used to be an industry leader. They must be getting desperate for business. Today I received an email for an opportunity to lease to own.  Just out of curiosity I got an estimate on an item valued at $600. Look at the cash price versus the lease to own price. It's $769 more just to lease the item. If you save your money for 6 months instead of lease to own you are better off. I understand people not having the money to buy items without financing, but this is really taking advantage of people. No credit check needed is the first flag that you are going to get gouged. Don't buy an item like this, chances are by the time you pay for the item, it's not even worth the cash price.

Having married a northerner with a Yorkshire dad, I've learned really important things about money, one of them being: don't buy something unless you have the money (even in the form of a debit card) in your pocket when purchasing it. If you want to buy something on credit to build credit, the best way, from what I've heard is to use a credit card, then pay off the credit card with the next payment cycle.
