Recommended Posts

I want to watch some TV series that I have on on my computer saved as a mp4 files (Space 1999 tv series)

How can I watch this on iPad 10th generation with type "C" connection?

Is there Ixpand type C with usb ?

For USB Type C devices, any USB compatible drive should work with adapters (e.g. https://www.amazon.com/Temdan-USB-Adapter-SuperSpeed-Transfer/dp/B0BMVHHT47/ ). If your computer is Windows/Linux, then you'll want to format the drive as exFAT before loading media because Apple doesn't support Windows NTFS or Linux ext4. https://support.apple.com/guide/ipad/external-storage-devices-ipad75b7b23f/ipados You can then transfer the files to the drive from the computer and open them on the iPad. I'm not familiar with iPad video player options though.

I thought this was a typo, but I guess not.. i-expand? Wow, the Apple tax on these is 250%, I am disgusted. https://www.apple.com/shop/product/HRHT2ZM/A/sandisk-ixpand-flash-drive-luxe-usb-type‑c-128gb

I recommend these more sanely priced options:

Thanks Alex, the only solution is to buy adapter for iXpand. (Just to be able to transfer files from my computer)
I will still go with iXpand Luxe as it has app that plays the movies on iPad (great for travelling)

I had good experience with iXpand in the past. Still have it but lightning connection does not fit my new iPad. IXpand luxe 256gb is very affordable in Australia, around $60 US, and 128 gb for $46 US,  and they are basically for life.

I don't understand, why are they the only solution? They're all the exact same memory chips from the same manufacturer, Sandisk. Just the ones without Apple branding are 1/3 the price and already have both ports you need.
Are you saying you already have one and you're going to use that one? Sorry if I misunderstood.

Playback is problematic with other USB's (Ixpand has the player included)

Looking for solutions with other USB's (and the are not the same as Ixpand has additional app and software to enable playback) is too time consuming.

The key word is "playback"

Ixpand is USB+playback

Other USB's (cheaper) no playback, you need to look for solution how to play movies and where to store them on iPad etc... (hassle)

I found some articles/forums from 2020 saying that many video apps on iOS have not been updated to to allow reading files from USB / external storage, but technically all should be able to support it by now I would assume. Personally, I would recommend VLC over anything else. https://appletoolbox.com/how-to-watch-movies-from-an-external-drive-on-your-ipad-with-ipados/#Use_SanDisk_iXpand_or_Similar_Drive_to_play_movies_directly_from_the_drive  Many individuals recommended Infuse, as well as Sandisk themselves for their iXpand drives. https://www.sandisk.com/ios-apps/for-ixpand/video It's just completely baffling to me that any app or operating system would lock down the ability to read files from an external drive and that you would have to move them to the device itself in order to play them. It defeats the purpose of using an external drive in the first place. I know I've read of people using USB C drives to do video editing and the like on iPads. I hope that's not still the case with video players. Thank you for your explanations and putting up with my tangents.
