Mormons and money

Just read this article on www.businessweek.com.

Here's an excerpt:

"Watching a religious leader celebrate a mall may seem surreal, but City Creek reflects the spirit of enterprise that animates modern-day Mormonism. The mall is part of a vast church-owned corporate empire that the Mormon leadership says will help spread its message, increase economic self-reliance, and build the Kingdom of God on earth."

Edit to add a second quote:

“We look to not only the spiritual but also the temporal, and we believe that a person who is impoverished temporally cannot blossom spiritually.”

Impoverished = Reduced to poverty; poverty-stricken.

Temporal = Pertaining to or concerned with the present life or this world.

So that is some quote. He is saying that you can't blossom spiritually in this world if you are poor.

Hmmm.... I wonder if they read this:

(Matthew 8:20) “Foxes have dens and birds of heaven have roosts, but the Son of man has nowhere to lay down his head."

(Matthew 6:19-21) 19 “Stop storing up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Rather, store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also

(Matthew 6:24) 24 “No one can slave for two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stick to the one and despise the other. YOU cannot slave for God and for Riches.

(Philippians 3:8)  Why, for that matter, I do indeed also consider all things to be loss on account of the excelling value of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord. On account of him I have taken the loss of all things and I consider them as a lot of refuse, that I may gain Christ.

I AGREE ROBERTA, COULD ONE IMAGINE JESUS BUILDING ECONOMIC SECURITY FOR GOD'S Kingdom or asking his followers to do that when we as true worshipers know that that is not our purpose in life. Isn't it good to the security of the TRUTH that Jesus preached not man made ideas!!!!!!!!

Obviously they haven't read the account of how it is easier for a camel to get thru the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into God's Kingdom. Can they explain that?

I love it when they are so up front about their intentions.

Quote for article : “We look to not only the spiritual but also the temporal, and we believe that a person who is impoverished temporally cannot blossom spiritually.”

It is like the anti-social element of our world who wear the skull with fire eyes T shirts as an outward sign of what they think and believe.

Also the scam artist who says . . 'I have had a tough life - I get in trouble a lot' . . 'I would not lie to you' . . we should take it as a hint that they are giving us that we should get away from them ASAP.
