Would you bowl here? Almost 100 year old bowling alley.

Recommended Posts

What a cool old bowling alley in Pennsylvania. Here is some information I learned:

"Rohman's Inn and Pub in Shohola, Pennsylvania has a four-lane, manually-operated bowling alley that dates back to 1941. The alley is located in the former Shohola Glen Hotel, which was once a popular destination for silent film stars. Here are some details about the bowling alley at Rohman's Inn and Pub: The alley has wooden lanes, folding seats for spectators, and a jukebox.

There are no machines to reset the pins between turns, so you can bring your own pinsetter or rent one for $5 per hour.

The basement bar at the pub dates back to the 1800s."

I have enjoyed bowling since I was a kid. I am physically unable to bowl for almost 13 years now and miss it.  Growing up in Olympia, Washington in the 60 & 70s we would usually go bowling and eat at Shakey's Pizza on Halloween night. My wife walked in and was surprised to see me watching bowling matches.  My dad told me, when he was a young man he worked as a pinsetter and would stand behind the lane and reset the pins.

absolutely!!!! I worked as a bowling alley mechanic through high school and college, Was on four leagues, and toured the State of Michigan in Youth tournaments.

Loved it, of course that was before the truth. Had a scholarship offer for a college but turned it down. Now that I live in a rural area and the nearest alley is an hour away, I stopped bowling. Thought that would be a good retirement venture, a small 6-lane alley.

Personally I would rent the whole place out and have a large gathering there, like a bowling party. Very simple, rustic, and relaxed atmosphere in there

I knew a brother who had once worked at a bowling alley, he mostly maintained the machinery that was used to reset the pins, the bowling ball returns and stuff behind the scenes. He used to work very early mornings, which suited him for pioneering.

So you are saying it was right up his alley? LOL
