Jehovah's Witnesses delivering personal invitations

Jehovah’s Witnesses from 62 congregations in Northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania are making a special door-to-door effort over the next couple of weeks to distribute printed invitations to their annual district convention.

The three-day conference, called Safeguard Your Heart!, begins at 9:20 a.m. July 27 at Cleveland State University’s Wolstein Center, 2000 Prospect Ave., in Cleveland.

The themes of the event and daily programs are based on passages of Scripture, including Proverbs 4:23; 1 Samuel 16:7; 1 Chronicles 28:9; and Matthew 12:34. Its goal is to help those in attendance strengthen their spirituality via talks, dramatic Bible readings and presentations.

The local convention, which is expected to attract nearly 25,000 people, is the first of three scheduled over three successive weekends. Admission is free.

In addition to the local convention, 385 are planned throughout the nation in 103 cities. The New York-based Jehovah’s Witness organization claims more than 7.6 million followers in more than 109,000 congregations worldwide. Jehovah’s Witnesses are perhaps best known for their door-to-door preaching and distribution of literature, including The Watchtower and Awake!

Mine as well. We break it up between the three conventions. We go to Friday to the first, Saturday to the second, and Sunday at ours. I am getting excited and nervous!!! This year will be my first time driving to and from the convention. I am more nervous about Friday. I need to make sure I got a full tank of gas, and PRAY my A/C doesn't go out on me.

I was born in Youngstown but we lived in Columbiana, although my aunt and uncle now go to a Congregation in Youngstown. His name is Roy Bottorf, he is an elder so he may eventually give a talk at your hall. Which area do you live in? I have/had a ton of family up in that area, my gma is the oldest of 12 so all her brothers and sisters are spread out in that area.

Dang, that's a long drive.

Phillipians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are of serious concern, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are chaste, whatever things are lovable, whatever things are well-spoken-of, whatever things are virtuous, and whatever things are praiseworthy, continue considering these things.

So Micah, Bob, and Nancy will all be at the same convention. I assume Shawn will be too? Is it just a coincendence you all are from the same area or did Bob know you all beforehand or...?

Yes, mine, too.

Bob knew me from another DB first. Only when I filled out the registration here did he see how close we really lived.

I recognize the Bottorf name, that's for sure.

Yes, all 4 of us will be at the same convention. However, I met all these brothers and sisters online.

Shawnster and I are on another JW board besides this one that I joined in 2000 and I think he was on for a few years before that. I met Micah in a Facebook JW group back in 2008 and invited him over here. I met Nancy here on JWTalk, but she said a local elder who knows of my involvement with this site recommended it to her. There is also Pamie (Winddove) whom I met on Facebook and invited over here, and her son Caleb who attends the sign language congregation that I do from time to time.

During this time, I have met Shawn, Pamie, and Caleb in person. Pamie came up to my congregation for a Sunday meeting, and Shawn was working at the District Convention last year as was I. I had a section, and he had a gate. Since then, I had Shawn come give a public talk at our congregation and he did superb!

Yup. It's probably the same for us. I've been to Youngstown Central twice and just traded with Youngstown North a few months ago. It was close to an hour.

You need to come to ours and give a talk!!!!

My wife knows Bro. Bottorf. My wife just informed me that he is in the Live Forever book. There is a drawing of a man holding a cigarette. That is him.

I'll try to maneuver my way into trading with your congregation.

You could always try to expedite it by suggesting me over there to your Public Talk Coordinator (PM me with his number), but I cannot see how the conversation would go...

"Hey, I wanna get this brother down here for a talk."

"Oh where is he from?"

"I don't know, Akron area I think. I met him on the internet on this Jehovah's Witnesses discussion forum that is not endorsed by the faithful slave."

"Put down the crackpipe, Micah!"

Yeah Susan would know Sara and Roy from when she went to East Palestine congregation but I always thought it was my Uncle Roy's brother that was in the book. I vividly remember sitting in the book study staring at that picture. Both him and his brother served at Bethel at the same time so it could have been either one of them.
